Default no merc archers in bononia / patavium as rome?

They're listed as recruitable in the catapult range (pre reforms), but no luck.

I was looking forward to not having to ferry them over the Adriatic.

Ah, I've seen issues like this before. Probably Rome has "recruit" rights in the EDB, but no EDU ownership.

Can you provide a screenshot showing the building details, as well as the unit details?

Will do -- I'll whip those up tonight.

I cheated up bononia and patavium to see what would happen once other city components were added, and no difference in the archers , but I also noticed that VE legions aren't available in bononia.

I wonder if the early game isn't tested very much (the post reforms units kick much more ass), so I would expect strange results like these far up into europe or anatolia. I love to prolong it as long as possible, so if any special non-merc (cheaper) options that are available I certainly don't want to miss out on them.

Since I seem to keep finding these things, I'm going to make a point of figuring out how to troubleshoot them -- hopefully for a 1.6.1 fix!

I found the unit that you were asking about.

Back up your EDU and change the following:

    Code:
    ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;NEW MERCENARIES;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
    type merc archer auxillia
    dictionary merc_archer_auxillia ; Archer Auxilia
    category infantry
    class            missile
    voice_type Medium_1
    soldier roman_archer_auxillia, 40, 0, 1
    attributes sea_faring, hide_forest, can_sap, very_hardy, mercenary_unit,no_custom
    formation 1.2, 1.2, 2.4, 2.4, 4, square
    stat_health 1, 1
    stat_pri 17, 2, arrow, 160, 35, missile, archery, piercing, none, 1 ,1
    stat_pri_attr no
    stat_sec 9, 2, no, 0, 0, melee, simple, piercing, knife, 0 ,0.5
    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 7, 20, 6, metal
    stat_sec_armour 0, 1, flesh
    stat_heat 1
    stat_ground 2,0,3,0
    stat_mental 14, disciplined, highly_trained
    stat_charge_dist 200
    stat_fire_delay 0
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 0, 730, 385, 50, 70, 430
    ownership slave, romans_brutii
Find the unit as shown, and add ownership

    sweet! worked like a charm.

I'll dig into the edu/edb files and see if I can dig out some of the missing or inconsistent recruitment around the Mediterranean.

There's some funkyness with Salona and legion ii vs. iii recruiting in the next to last barracks. A different kettle of fish altogether I'm going to guess.

You mean having a legio gemina and a legio italia or something?

Give a screenshot of building details for the different levels where this occurs - I'm not gonna play Romans and expand there to find out. THE EDB is really complicated as well.

    Alavaria:

Well, in this particular case, it's my eyes playing tricks on me. The legion III triarii remain recruitable, but the line troops switch from republican legion III to VE Legion II (outside Italia) which is exactly right.
