    Default Movement points in campaign

Hi there, anyone knows how to change the movements points to a unit? I want to modify this because i find too tedious to go to black gate from bree for example with Gandalf, and it is supposed that Gandalf moves really fast in MA to go from one square to another in a few days or weeks. Thanks in advance.

I donīt remember the time wasted in travel the distance between the shire and gondor but the point is that he acts in sometimes as a messenger in fact one of his missions is to travel to bring hope to the free peoples of MA.
In any case, is possible to change the movement points for gandalf?

What I found interesting was the fact that the meeting at Rivendel (sp?) could be answered by Dwarves, Silvan Elves, and Gondor Captains alike in what seemed like such short notice, and nobody seems to have had any trouble getting there.

I am totally on your page i hate how slow the pace is with standard movement, i always increase it to at least twice what it is. I don't find that it has any game play reprocautions or makes it any easier for the player because the AI gets the extra movement too and especially if you are fighting a faction like mordor you might get some strategic benefit from the extra movement and be able to take the land faster but those mordor stacks will swarm you quite quickly. Over all it makes for a more exiting campaign with more battles per turn.

But anyway since no one seemed to have answered your question this is how you change movement. In your third age folder(program files/SEGA/Medieval II/Mods/Third age)

there is a descr_character file, open it, press control F and type in starting_action_points, find that line you will see a number after that phrase that is standard movement so if you double it you double the movement, so just add as much as you want.

The first one will be the default value for troops, if you find the next line with starting_action_points it will be for named characters and you can change that the same way, the next one will be for generals, including Gandalf, then spys, dips and so forth. You can change the movement for each character type to whatever you like but i don't know how to go about changing movement just for gandalf it would have to be changed for all generals.

    To raise movementpoints for everything

    Go to "..\third_age\data\descr_character.txt"

Look for "starting_action_points" on named generals and generals.

I did it, thanks for the answers. But what is the name of txt file that contains the biography of the characters? In order to change the points only to Gandalf as Muffer said.
In the other way if i modify the character file every general has the same points.

    export_descr_character_traits.txt

Just look for Trait Gandalf and add "Effect MovementPoints 20" to the effects
Change 20 to whatever amount you want

For units, you nneed to do teh following, others have explained how to increase charcters.

go to descr_campaign_db.xml and add the following:- this will give you Cav units with twice the movement of inf, who have twice the movement of inf units, adjust to your own prefernece.

<cavalry_movement_points_modifier float="4.00"/> <!-- movement points modifier for cavalry units -->
<infantry_movement_points_modifier float="2.00"/> <!-- movement points modifier for infantry units -->
<siege_movement_points_modifier float="1.00"/> <!-- movement points modifier for siege units -->

    If using RR/RC:

-Updated character movement speeds on campaign map. If you find too slow, backup data/descr_character.txt and rename data/descr_character_FASTER.txt to data/descr_character.txt
