Default Can't I get new generals without letting them entering my royal family?

Hi everyone. I'm new to M2TW although have played RTW and its mods for a while. I'm very interested in M2TW but have a few questions especially this one.
One of the things most frustrate me in RTW is that when I expand too fast I have to adopt dozens of strangers into my family to manage my empire.
I understand there are two kinds of characters in M2TW, family members and mere generals, and I believe it's very good.
However I heard that you cannot get a new general without letting him become your family member, I don't get the point if it is so. Did medieval kings love to adopt promising youths so much as those in ancient times?

They didn't, but it's the way to ensure you have enough generals. The only way to get 'generals' (as you want them) is to recruit them from a castle.

You can recruit generals with fortress level and greater stables.

It's something like 1 general per 20 turns. They are not family members, just like "starting" generals.

Thanks for your quick reply but I admit I'm a little disappointed...Really don't like to see my family tree crowded with guys with various family names...
So the "man of the hour" will always be adopted like in R:TW?
I guess it should be more natural to just promote him to a general.

Yes, the man of the hour will always be adopted. And as said before you CAN recruit generals through Fortresses and Citadels, via Baron stables or higher, or the equivalent.

Also, it's possible to get Man of the Hour for a battle led by a General - this turns a regular General into a Family Member.

Like they said, you can recruit generals in higher level stables. So if you want a lot of those generals, you'll need to invest quite heavily. Personally...I never minded too much not having enough generals/FM to run my empire. I like to keep my family very tight and well run, and does not mind sending any "undesired" members of my family line on suicide missions, and once in a while, I will get lucky and recruit a pretty good general, and marry him into my family.

Marriage is the best way to acquire new generals, if you use princesses at least. I modified my game so that the bloodline of the princess will be passed down to her children.

Are you also able to pass down her maiden name? If so, any chance you can tell us how to do this? I'm getting tired of having too many incestuous relationships in my family tree...

Man of the Hour is not always Adoption - it's called Lesser Adoption. Only Generals with Man of the Hour will become Adopted - I can confirm this because I got a Man of the Hour Captain, promoted to a general, and then the following turn, he won a heroic victory, and came away with man of the hour again, this time giving him family member status.

I just won two heroic victories with my non-family general, and he didn't got an adoption offer. And my family wasn't full, at every turn I was offered to adopt some guys...

I often get offers after clear victories, I have no idea when you are offered adoption. Sometimes I fight 20 battles with one general and he won't get an offer, or I fight one battle with a captain and he's adopted immediatly. Very weird.

    Hi All

Am play as Sicily on SS 6.2 RRRC + BYG, year 1302. I don't think have been able to recruit a general at all via my citadel at Palermo.

    How is this done????

    Cheers

I don't know how things work in RR/RC, but if you upload export_descr_buildings.txt I can tell you.
