    Default Medieval 3 wishlist

Years upon years away(if even at all), but I thought it would be fun to wishlist, M2TW was my favourite game!

    This would be my ideal faction listing would be;
    England
    Wales
    Scotland
    Ireland
    France
    Flanders
    Burgundy
    Aragon
    Spain
    Portugal
    Holy Roman Empire
    Denmark
    Norway
    Sweden
    Milan
    Genoa
    Venice
    Florence
    Papal States
    Sicily
    The Alhmohads
    The Hafsvids
    The Fatimids
    Mali
    Poland
    Prussia
    Bavaria
    Hungary
    Croatia
    Bulgaria
    Byzantium
    Lithuannia
    Republic of Novrogod
    Kievian Rus
    The Pechenegs
    The Kipchaks
    Georgia
    Cilician Armenia
    The Turks
    Kwarazem

    My three invasions would be
    The Cumans
    The Mongols
    The Timurids

The map would be the size of ETW's three maps put together, except only stretching from the british isles as far east as central asia, and as far north as Scandinavia stretching down to the further most reaches of the Sahara desert. This would mean Europe itself would be much more defined. My vision would be that for example England would have as much detail on the campaign map as it does in M2tw kingdoms, the same going for all the regions of europe.

There would be more events then just the mongol and timurid invasions. For example I would include the Cathar heresy as a major event in europe (ie. If your population become majority Cathar you monarch would have the choice of converting or open rebellion in the form of a new faction emerging). Im sure there are some of you who could think of more events

I would re-introduce the title system from the original Mtw in order to buy loyalties, perhaps even with the option of hereditary titles.

I would introduce an oppression system wherein you have to have conquered a rival faction for a time fram of say 100 years otherwise when there is open rebellion that faction re-appears on the map. IMO that was one of the great features of Mtw where you have been comfortable for sometime then all of a sudden England, France and Denmark re-appear due to low public order!

Just floating ideas. What do you all think? M2TW was my fav total war game (heresy i know) and after the disappointment of ETW and my lack of enthusiam ranging to down right paranoia and skepticism about NTW, i miss the good old days. For all people ed about M2 its flaws paled into comparison compared with ETW.

Not as if it'll come anytime soon, I wouldn't be surprised if CA won't do medieval ever again.

I think TW will have more of a positive and intentional approach to making another medieval game then CA. If CA doesn’t want to make another medieval game then I’m sure another supervisor will take its place.

As it is, Empire total war is the latest game (ignoring the expansions), what’s next?
WWI totalwar? WWII totalwar? And then what? Vietnam, Modern warfare? Back to the future totalwar? Before the majority of any of these ideas are taken into account I would think that medieval would be remade.

Most likely someone will go back and start recreating the games again. Starting with the first most popular game, Rome totalwar. By then (and this is only a guess) I reckon medieval II would be the most out of date totalwar game out there (not counting shogun totalwar).

Anyway get over the medieval III wish list because it anit gona happen for a long time. Unless I get superpowers and start one myself

would it be possible for modders to do all this work and give us such a medieval 3 without the naval battles of course just using this engine?
Or maybe even better can they realise this by using the empire engine ? [heard it isn`t that moddable]

No it isn't possible, that would no longer be considered modding, thats creating an entire new game.

Now I'm curious about the feasibility of creating a mod for Empire:Total War under the Medieval banner. Medieval Empire: TW, anyone?

It is not titles that honor men, but men that honor titles.

I would be happy if the animation for the AI attacking me on the campaign map didnt take an hour to go through.

Yes, i see you at my gate... Attack already.

Ok fine then. Do your little dance. Still not done? Oh now you have to go into the big backswing.

    Wait for it.....

Can we just start fighting now?! Sheesh.

Not feasible, the animations in ETW are unsuited for big melee fights.

I think people should wait until MedII is obsolete before thinking about the next one...
I mean damn, it's one hell of an advanced game. Maybe a little off center but a quick hour self modding fixes that.

Though, keeping to the theme; I'd love to see navy battles in Med3, though the way the modding is going, RTW could have navy battle in a year or so... And RTW is a window onto MedII.
    I like pie.

I would say that one thing I would like is to have a more wide ranging diplomatic options that actually make sense, especially in the siege aspect.

For example, in these times when your sieged, a lot of times the end result was not a full out starvation or an direct assault, but rather...

    A. defender surrender, either decided by the leadership or via coup

    B. defenders buy / allowed free pass, giving them the settlement but letting the defenders leave unharmed.

    C. attackers agree to a ceasefire term and leave.

    D. attacker run out of food supply and leave (this is actually very common, some mods attempt to do this but there's a whole lot of limitation with the current engine)

In turn, direct assault should be even harder. the central keep should be in play, any one on the walls should be able to throw things down the wall, defenders should have more variety of defense strategies . but the attackers should be able to continue the siege even if they don't win in time.

More coordinated diplomacy and options would be great. like specifically asking for aid against a particular enemy settlement or army, and not just a general will attack them logic.
1180, an unprecedented period of peace and prosperity in East Asia, it's technology and wealth is the envy of the world. But soon conflict will engulf the entire region with great consequences and lasting effects for centuries to come, not just for this region, but the entire known world, when one man, one people, unites.....

To add to that, I think that we should add more religions and go into Heresy in more depth. Also, I agree with all the factions. As an update though:

For me, Stainless Steel pretty much fills the need for a third MTW game; greatly expanded map, more units, more factions...though I would like to see a game go through 400+ turns at least once...

There are still a lot of things you could want, SS if definetly not 100% perfect.

    I agree with Baltic Warrior.

Now, I will write a post in this thread, because I have a strong urge to let out my feelings about a third Medieval, the Second being one my favorite games.

    Clan-Kingdom-Empire

In the game Crusader Kings 2, if you conquer a certain amount of territories you can form an Empire. For example, Norway conquers all of Scandinavia and forms the Scandinavian Empire. If the game would begin in the late Dark Era, perhaps a group of clans would unite, conquer their neighbours, before all in the land uniting; example, a clan in Norway grows stronger, and the other leaders decide to join the growing Kingdom. Becoming an Empire could provide bonuses such as, area of recruitment and new political/economic options.
Imagine like, Venice, Genoa, Pisa, or something, would all unite and form 'The Kingdom of Italy'. Later, the Mediterranean Empire?
Then, when factions grow smaller and weaker, they might be turned into their usual state. For example, the Byzantine Empire is all conquered by their Italian foes; yet Constantinople remains. Now, they ain't some Empire anymore, and is turned into the Kingdom of Byzantium, Republic of Byzantium, or maybe just Greece.

    Longer Campaign.

I noted the Dark Era earlier. Perhaps, the Campaign would start near 800/900, which would allow Viking invasions, more Pagan factions. Normans could evolute into the 'Kingdom of England' if they drive out the Saxxies and conquer England. They could also get to Italy, and conquer Sicily from the Muslims. Factions could also convert to get various bonuses like in Shogun 2. If Norway for example, would all unite, but remain Pagan they would continue their Viking ways; have good trading relations with Orthodox and Muslim factions, get bonuses from sacking settlements, and have more savage light infantry. In the meantime, they might not get advanced gunpowder, good infrastructure and advanced Armor, and the growing Catholic factions would soon consider your lands fair game, unless Paganism remain strong in Europe.

    Influence

Religion and Culture. I suppose most Medieval 2 fans are familiar with the Culture system replacing religion in the Britannia campaign, and religion from perhaps Shogun.
Certain agents, maybe a Bard, could spread his culture. The various cultures should be named after religions and region on the map; they could be Scandinavian Pagan, Baltic Pagan, Western Pagan, Northern Catholic, Mediterranean Catholic, Russian, Roman, Islamic, and Asian. All explain themselves. Culture would possibly affect diplomacy; for example, if a faction never met you before they might find you strange and not ally you, but want to trade exotic goods with you. And via trade, cultures spread. Later on, the Trade Partners get used to one anothers cultures and might learn to trust, or distrust them. Area of recruitment would also be affected by this. Let us say, that the Holy Roman Empire conquers Denmark. The Danes, in the year of 1114 have not fully absorbed the German ways of warfare(heavy armor etc), and the Germans can thus only pull up a force of Huscarl Swordsmen, or Norse Archers. Over time, the conquered Danes absorb their Imperial overlords and now, the Danish subjects now fight with heavy armor and Flammenwerfer swords.

And Religion. The clash of faiths played a heavy role in the era of Chivalry. Religious Agents would not only convert the people of the region, but could like in Shogun, demoralize armies and make settlements riot. Maybe a Christian Priest could convert the enemy Army to join his own Nations side, with the chance of getting thrown out or clubbed to death. They could bless armies before battle, to give various bonuses and Priests could be carried into battle to maybe force routing forces to continue fighting. Pagan Priests could maybe offer Economic and farming boosts, with prayers to their Gods and wealthy sacrifices.
Religion and War would also be an important feature. While Christians should remain on the good side of the Papacy, unless they should feel his wrath, Pagans may want to be at war and execute as many men as possible to satisfy their Gods; and the masses. Muslims should avoid killing their own people, or else their Imams could maybe turn against them, or the other Muslim lords would strike(not an expert on Muslims)? The Orthodox should also remain in the Shadows, or else the greedy Catholics and angry Muslims would see their lands as fair targets for the next subject; Holy War.
If a Faction would have good relations with their Religious leaders(highly pious Imam, good relations with the pope), they could attempt to call a Holy War. A Crusade could be called upon certain places only(important non-catholic region, such as Jerusalem, Novgorod, Cordoba or any Muslim capital). The Pope could maybe call a crusade upon the invading Mongols/Timurids, and the Catholic Kings would be ordered to slay certain generals(sadly enough, no one joined the Pope's called crusade upon the Mongols).
When a Crusade is finished, and a Holy Region captured, the Christian faction should be able to form a small Vassal kingdom, dedicated to protect the Holy place(Latin Empire, Kingdom of Jerusalem, Teutonic Order).
You should also be able to forcefully crown a Puppet Pope if you invade the Papal States. Make decisions for him, and such. Protestantism could be an emerging religion for those that dislike the Pope; it could provide trade and military bonuses, but no Crusades nor support from the Pope.

    Beyond the known world

When the Mongols invade, it would first bring terror; but after the death of their great Khan, the Mongol power grows weaker. And from their once terror, the Mongol empire establishes a mighty trading system, and the various factions of Asia begin trade with Europe. This could allow some sort of Trade post to be obtained, or unreachable faction to trade with. Europeans trade with China, obtain gunpowder, nutmeg and all of that. More trade income and Military might for everyone.
In the end of the Campaign, Europe learns of India; new trade posts could be obtainable, and maybe even Elephants in scant numbers. After a certain event, America is discovered. Firstly, trade posts. Then, more lands for you to conquer. Time goes by, and more of the Americas become available for your greedy gaze(in the beginning, Cuba, then south America, then Texas, Florida, North America).
However, the first Colonization could perhaps be in the late Dark Era; Iceland, Greenland, and the legendary 'Vinland' in North America discovered by a group of lost Scandinavians, before they were killed by Natives.

    Infrastructure.

There should only be cities. Castles should be like a mix of forts, barracks and economical Building in Empire; units can reside within, it can recruit units and whatnot. They could however, be crucial to invade and ransack if one would want to take a region. Naval invasions should also be more immersive; cities such as Constantinople or Venice could be besieged via the Sea, and attacked in that way. And then, Gunpowder becomes avaible to the ships, which could be alot of fun. Various historical buildings could also play part, in ways of global effects.

    Misc.

Like in the future Rome 2, various cities should look unique; Venice, Constantinople, and Jerusalem for example.

The greatest invasion could be Cumans, and Mongols, with minor invasions being Vikings and Timurids. Timurids never conquered all of Russia. Timur attacked India, Persia, and the Ottoman Empire. And Vikings would go on a blatant rampage across France, Great Britain and maybe Germany.

    City view.

In the early to high period, Knights should be harder to recruit, but extremly though and fierce in battle.

    ....

    Just my cup of tea.

SS is nowhere near the capacity that a M3TW could have in terms of gameplay.
