How powerful is he? Let's count the ways:

• Presides over world's largest, most innovative, most dynamic economy.(WRONG)
• Commander-in-chief of planet's richest, deadliest military.(WRONG)
• Finger on button of nuclear arsenal containing more than 5,000 warheads.(Him and 10 other people.)
  
• Head-of-state of world's sole superpower. (Um wow do I have to say how wrong this is?)
  
• His Democrats have majorities in both U.S. House and Senate. (So?)
• Recently awarded Nobel Peace Prize, apparently for general awesomeness. (If by awesome you mean awesomely doing nothing!)

At the end of the day, no matter how someone might dominate a conversation in front of cameras, it is certainly different behind closed doors. Of course Obama is the most powerful man in the world. All U.S. presidents have been since we won WW2 (or at least after the fall of the Soviet Union in '91).

Makes perfect sense to me.

Although Italy is less powerful than Germany, Berlusconi has a lot more power over Italy than Merkel has over Germany.

-Berlusconi controls the majority of Italian news outlets.
-Berlusconi (still) has immunity from the law.
Merkel has nothing like that.

Also, the Italian political system puts the winner of the elections in a much stronger position than in the German system.
Although both need to form a coalition with other parties in order to reach a majority, the German coalitions are much more loose and coalition partners must be kept happy at all times.

obama is , as all presidents and leaders of any nuclear armed country are, one of the worlds most powerful people.
