    Default Overpopulated...

    I'm playing as Thracia.
Nice units, and starting position (for fighting those pesky Macedonians).
    But, here is the problem:

They expand very fast, and they get overpopulated in just 20 turns!

Are there ways to lower the population growth to a neutral or even negative bonus?

It's the grain resource bug. The grain resource has a bug whereby any province with that resource suffers from excessively high growth. ExRM is the closest thing to RTR Platinum that fixes that bug.

You'll get the same problem playing as Pontus, or Ptolemy in the Nile valley, or the Carthaginian coast, or the Indus valley cities. I like it actually, it gives an extra challenge to the game!

I hope that the bug is fixed...

But, what if your population is to high?
    How to reduce it?

    ermmm....

recruit LOADS AND LOADS of useless troops, then ship them away to some town which doesnt have enough population, then disband the troops there.

In my opinion, population never gets too high. In cities you know will get big population growth (e.g. Pharnacia, Eupatoria, Alexandria, Carthage, etc) start by building barracks to level 2 (so you can train soldiers to a) reduce population growth and b) shut the rebels up at the tip of the sword(s)), then market buildings (so you can imediately build the next level governor building when you pass the 12K and 24K limits, failing to do so will make your citizens riot like it's the last day of alcohol. EVER.), and finally temples and sewers/aqueducts. Around pop level 35K large piles of poo in the streets will make your citizens think twice before making babies.

Instead of vanilla where Alexandria used to reach 43000 people , now many settlements have about 56000 people.. But why do you have a problem with that? I only wish I could make the cities Bigger!
More people means more taxes which ultimate leads to more armies !!

If the problem is public order then remember to destroy other civilization's buildings and build yours.
