    Default FoE takes the Crown

I really think this is the best mod ever made for RTW! (meaning better than EB and everything else)
Depends on people's gustos and likes but as far as production values and everything FoE offers makes it by far the best mod.
I know that may sound a little like I am off track and I am sorry, meaning that the modders do this for fun and I sound like giving grades when there shouldn't be any judging or so since there isn't any competition.
    But I didn't think RTW had so much to offer;
The map, the units (the most detailed beautiful units I have ever seen),the environment and terrain, the gameplay, fresh gorgeous hoplites (very genius),music is awesome, NEW FEATURES...this feels like RTW2 for christs sake.

I don't recommend mentioning any other mods... Just say RTR FOE is the best and that's it. It's a very slippery slope to talk about such mods. I don't really think you can compere EB and RTR FOE.

    Thank you for your comments.
We wanted to deliver something different and this was in no way meant to be a competition between EB and RTR (or any other mod)

As you rightly point out, different people will look for different things from a mod.
It would not be possible for us to keep all these features on a map equal to the old RTR PE world since there would simply not be enough regions.
What we wanted to attempt was to concentrate on a smaller area so that we could enrich the playing experience with more detail while still building toward a bigger future product.

The team is rightly (imo) proud of FOE, but there are somethings we realise we could have done even better. Who knows what the expansion will deliver!

Yep, very true... and ehm... the expansion is WIP already...

I think the region feature (though done to some extent before in other mods) and the map density working together really make FOE click in a way that I haven't seen in other mods. Forcing the small towns to never have happiness problems is brilliant. Other mods have tried to create the idea of a hierarchical settlement structure just by dumping resources/income/recruitment/walls etc into a few main settlements and thinking this will persuade the player to only care about the main cities. But this completely misses the reality that a players investment in any settlement is trying to make and keep it happy. E.g. if you spent 10 turns building happiness structures and stationed a good general with a bunch of troops all to get a settlement happy, you are going to want to defend that settlement even if it is only has a population of 400. I think this also works well at keeping the AI from garrisoning every settlement.

The campaigns in FOE just "feel" right. It is like reading Livy, in a conflict the little towns get swapped back and forth with hardly a mention, but the real action is in the big battles and the big sieges. But the density of the map makes conquest go slow and methodical, e.g Sicily isn't conquered in two turns.

I agree, RTR was always about some amazing battles coupled with things being not too complicated (while adding little depth, cough another mod) so as to create a game that had great battles and great atmosphere.

FOE is exactly this. A brilliant campaign script, a very good use of the rebels system(as well as few other great systems), slightly better battles and even greater atmosphere.

i love this mod. my one complaint is it feels a little scripted at times. As soon as i took the last epirian city in italy the gauls attacked the next turn. as soon as i destroyed the gauls the automomous polis (or whatever) attacked the next turn. apart from that it is fantastic. id say this is even better than TATW. although they pobably changed more in that mod its fundamentaly screwed over by the medieval 2 engine. i acturaly rebought rome just to play this game and i was dissapointed with vanilla rome. not as good as i remebered but im so glad i bought it now. i think it is by far the best looking startegy game. (apart from the grass that disapears after aout 2 meters but they cant help that). sorry if ive only mentioned the bad parts. but the good are too many to list. i just love this mod

lol - I wish it was possible to change the AI like you mention to be so agressive

In fact, the only real scripts in FoE are:
    1. The opening battles
    2. The four turn per year script
    3. A money script in case th AI goes into serious depts

Do you maybe play on VH campaign difficulty? The AI tends to hate the player on that setting. Also, it's very common for the RTW AI to attack you as soon as you get a shared border with it. So that is likely what is happening for you now. Not much we can do about it I'm afraid

Re the grass: You can change that to whatever setting you like. You can even make it so that there is grass all the way to the horizon. But it will seriously decrease the performance of your battles.

    Thanks for the feedback!
