    Default CTD while besieging Lemonum

    Dear Forum,

In my Carthago-campaign I´m now at war with the Gauls. Accordingly, I advanced with my armies from Spain and conquered Gaul. Whilst I besieged the city of Lemonum, a Gaul relief-force attacked me and I annihilated the relief-force, as well as the city garrison in a field-battle. Then I took the city and wiped out the populace… and then occurred the CTD. Ok – I played my turn again, annihilated the Gauls, took Lemonum, enslaved the populace… CTD. Three further attempts… always CTDs! Only when I allowed some city defenders (about 150 men) to escape and I took the city with an automatic battle the next turn, no CTD occurs. Is this a known bug or what is the reason for this crash? The game worked stable until this moment.

    Regards Marcel

P.S. I already changed to UNLIMITED MEN ON BATTLEFIELD – TRUE in the preferences.txt

I think this may well be the 'reinforce CTD' it happens when there are some units left from the garrison. My understanding is that the CTD is caused by the garrison survivors not having anywhere to retreat to. There is no known fix for this problem - it's part of the RTW engine.

There are two things you can do - attack the relieving army (this may not be possible if they are not in site) and destroy it and then lay siege again. With this option the settlement garrison may be involved in the battle and you can destroy them as well making the assault on the settlement easier. The second option is to life the siege, move away and then start the siege again.

The other option is to autoresolve.

I have pretty much the same problem.
I'm besieging some city on Sicily (forgot the name, think it starts with "a") and when i attack it,win the battle (I killed the whole garrison),it shows me stats of the battle and when i click to bring me back to campaign map it CsTD. Tried lowering the graphics, still does the same.
Should i do the same thing as Darkangel?
