That's funny. When the Christians took over the Roman Empire and were destroying statues of the ancient gods, they were smugly proclaiming that if those gods were real they would be stopping them or smiting them with thunderbolts. They didn't think that the old gods would punish them in some hidden, belated manner. No real point in this, I just remembered it and found it ironic.
