Default Is this correct for 3.5?

Hi, the 'Properties/Target' on the icon for ExRM shows .
    "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -nm -show_err -mod:ExRM .
    This is after downloading v3.5.
Have I lost the v3.5 download?
Or should I change the target ?

    Thanks for any/all help.
    Rob.

    1. Is "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War" where you've installed RTW?
    2. What does it say in the Start in field on the shortcut?

Another test is to start the game: the splash screen should say 3.5

(btw, that shortcut looks correct to me - I think ExRM is always started with the same shortcut, regardless of which version it is)

Hi, yes it was installed into C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War.
    Start field on ocon shows. "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\"
    Target field shows. "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -nm -show_err -mod:ExRM

Splash field still shows v3.4 Extended realism mod v3.4 for RTR Plat mod 1.9 ( hopefully I remembered that correctly )
Tried again, installing into C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War
    Same result.
    Should it be installed into C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\ExRM ?

The game still works and I am more than happy with v3.4 .
Will try downloading and installing again....not going to give up.

Many thanks for advice though gents.

Nope, installing it here is correct: C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War

It sounds like you're dragging and dropping the patch to the wrong spot. Make sure the data and docs folders inside the patch archive overwrite their counterparts inside the ExRM subfolder.

    Hi.
Sorry, still have the same problems.

Have re-installed ExRM from the installed ExRM_v3.4_setup into the Rome - Total War folder along with the 3.4.1 hotfix, everything works perfectly.

    Onto 3.5...

Have downloaded and extracted the 3.5 patch into the following folder . C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\ExRM
Also the Hotfix 3.5.1 into the same folder C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\ExRM

Have noticed a new icon 'ER '
The icon on my desktop still shows . v3.4 . As does the game when I start it. This is also the original icon, should it change?
    Properties for the icon. Target - "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -nm -show_err -mod:ExRM
    Start in - "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\"
The Campaign map reset has also been copied and reset .

Am I being a real dummy here and missing something really simple ?

Any help will be greatly appriciated.

    Thanks.

As Quinn says, make sure that the files from the 3.5 and 3.5.1 patches have gone into the right directories. All of the changes are to files under these two directories:
    C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\ExRM\Data
    C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\ExRM\Docs

If you patched "too deep", then you might have
    C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\ExRM\Data\Data
If you patched "too high", then you might have
    C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\Docs (which never exists in a vanilla installation)

If you drag-and-dropped at the right level, then you'll have seen a dialog box from Windows Explorer asking whether to overwrite files - that's a sign that you did it right

Not sure if this actually has any effect but I feel I must point out that my folders look like this:

    D:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\ExRM\Docs (or) ExRM\Data

Ok, I bet I've found what's caused your problems. It looks like Quinn ZIP'd up the 3.5 patch from a different "depth" in the ExRM directory structure

The 3.4, 3.4.1, and 3.5.1 ZIP files all contain the following structure (although 3.5.1 has no Docs changes):
    • 3.4
      • Data
      • Docs
But the 3.5 ZIP file looks like this:
    • 3.5
      • ExRM
        • Data
        • Docs
So you can't apply the 3.5 ZIP file the same way - you have to drill one level deeper.

Put another way, here's how make a patch work every time: open up the ZIP file in Windows Explorer, and drill down until you find the Data and Docs directories. Then open up your ExRM directory in another Windows Explorer. Finally, drag-and-drop the Data and Docs directories from the ZIP file to the ExRM directory. If Explorer prompts you to replace files, you know you've done it right!

Edit: Carados has a good point - you might see RTW under either Activision or The Creative Assembly, depending on which edition you got (Gold, Platinum, whatever).

*blinks* Oh, interesting. I didn't realize I'd done that. I think I'll re-upload the patch. The files will be the same (so I won't change the release number to avoid confusion). Good catch.

Hi, All my total war mods are under The Creative Assembly - but otherwise they look like Carados's .

Tried the drag and drop from the patch, wasn't asked to overwrite files.
Will have to try later, worked all night!

Also is the CC expansion mod able to be modded over this?
Either 3.4 or 3.5 that is.

Thanks again for all your help guys, by hook or by crook !!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, quick update....I have re-installed from the beginning, same result.
Have 'drilled' deeper and got an overwrite message, however the Splash Screen says v3.4 - so am I still a dummy ?

Either way, I still get to play ExRM 3.4 and thats fine by me.

    Thanks everyone.

Think I have found the problem, I printed the install instructions off and appear to mave missed out the part where I must change " Start In" to your main RTW:BI folder .
    The example shown is - "C:\program files\games\activision\RTRPE 1.9 + ExRM 3.3
    Mine says - "C:\Program Files\Activision\RTRPE 1.9 + ExRM 3.1"
    As I have everything installed under " The Creative Assembly" I changed it to read - "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\RTRPE 1.9 + ExRM 3.1"
This didn't work, because of the 3.1
I have only downloaded v3.4 and the 3.5 patches .
What should the Start in point to ?
    Also the target shows - C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /C "start /HIGH RomeTW-BI.exe %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9" -show_err -nm -mod:ExRM
    Is that correct ?
    Again thanks.

ExRM is typically installed in a subdirectory of the main RTW directory. For my edition of RTW, the main RTW directory is "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War" and ExRM is installed in a subdirectory of that, namely "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\ExRM"

Then my shortcut's "Start In" property is "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War" (the main RTW directory) and its "Target" property is the same as yours. Take a look at the "-mod:ExRM" switch at the end of the target line: it tells RTW to load the mod from the ExRM subdirectory of wherever it starts (which is the main RTW directory), so this all works.

Your setup looks... unique With your current "Start In" and "Target" settings, I think that shortcut will run the executable "C:\Program Files\Activision\RTRPE 1.9 + ExRM 3.1\RomeTW-BI.exe", and tell it to load the ExRM mod from the directory ""C:\Program Files\Activision\RTRPE 1.9 + ExRM 3.1\ExRM". Do those things actually exist?

    Hi, Back again.
I have uninstalled everything to do with ExRM and started again, including re-downloading.
This shows a shortcut Icon on the desktop identical to the BI one but with v3.4 as a discription.
Have run the v3.4 installer but have not installed the 3.5 patch.
Reason being, the shortcut in the Rome : Total War\EXRM directory which says 'Shortcut to RomeTW-BI.exe has the following properties -
    "C:\Program Files\Activision\RTRPE 1.9 + ExRM 3.1"

As Friendly Fire has pointed out this seems unique .

Now here I may get confused but anyway ... the Shortcut 'RomeTW-BI.exe ' in the ExRM directory - what is it for ?
Why does it show 'Activision' all my Rome mods are under 'The Creative Assembly'
When I try to amend it to show 'The Creative Assembly' rather than 'Activision' it says '"C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\RTRPE 1.9 + ExRM 3.1" is not valid. I have also tried amending the ExRM 3.1 to 3.4 this also doesn't work

The following mods are installed and work fine on my Pc -
    RTRPE Mod Switch
    ExRM v3.4
    Res Gestae
    TIC
    RTRVII
    AQD's Mod

All of which I think are amazing, now..............when I try to load the Vanilla Rome Total War and the Expansion Barbarian Invasion they do not load ?

Methinks I have confused myself completely on the Mod front.
As all the Mods work and I have never wanted to play the Vanilla versions since finding the above mods I am not unhappy not playing them.

I am more than a little confused, so again thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this and who may point me in a direction that may enable me to mod ExRM to v3.5

Think I am going to meet myself coming in before I have gone out at this rate !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you use the "no-nonsense installer"? If I remember right, it assumes you're installing on top of the Activision edition of RTW. I couldn't get it to work right on my (Creative Assembly) edition, so in the end I gave up and used the manual installation instructions instead.

Anyway, as you say now you're just going round in circles. If ExRM 3.4 is working for you then you can work from there:
    1. Find out where your ExRM folder is, the one that's working to give you 3.4
    2. Drill down in the 3.5 ZIP file to find the Data and Docs directories
    3. Drag and drop them from the ZIP file to your ExRM folder (which will already contain Data and Docs directories, so you'll get overwrite messages)

Hi, Thanks so much for your patience.

Think I may have it .....

The load screen says v3.5 - Finally !

However the Splash screen shows v 3

Went into options and it shows 1.6 in the top right corner.

    So, I think I may have v3.5 ?
Is there a way of knowing whilst in the game ?

Anyway, again many thanks Friendly Fire .

Get a general into the field and see what merc units he can hire. If there are some peltast-type units called akontistai, you've got 3.5.

Glad to hear that you got it working! Your version numbers look the same as mine, and I know I'm playing 3.5 (actually 3.51):

    • Load screen says Extended Realism v3.5 in bottom right corner
    • Menu page says Extended Realism v3 at top of screen
    • Options page says v1.6 in top right corner (which is the version of RTW:BI, not the mod)

    Now enjoy the game
