    Default Ancient Greek commands

Hey, I was reading Steinhower's "War in Ancient Greece" and I stumbled upon a list of real life commands. They are derived from Asclepiodotus (1st century BC) who generally refers to the organisation Macedonian phalanx in his work, but Steinhower applies them to the traditional hoplite phalanx. Perhaps you will find them useful:

    επί δόρυ κλίναι turn right
    επί ασπίδα κλίναι turn left
    επί δόρυ μεταβάλου front right
παράστηθι επί τα όπλα weapons next to you? (όπλα παρά πόδας)
ησυχία δε έστω και προσέχετε τω παραγγέλματι be quiet and pay attention
    υπόλαβε την σκεύην grab shield
    ανάλαβε την σκεύην shield up
ανάλαβε το δόρυ spear on shoulder
άνω τα δόρατα spears up (overhand attack)
καθές τα δόρατα spears down (underhand attack)
    διάστηθι spread out
    στοίχει line up
    ζύγει form ranks?
παρόρα τον ηγούμενον line up behind the leader
ο ουραγός απευθυνέτω τον ίδιον λόχον last man must line up (dont know what this implies)
συντήρει τα εξαρχής διαστήματα keep the initial distances
    πρόαγε march
    έχου ούτως halt
το βάθος διπλασίαζε, αποκατάστησον double the depth, restore
το βάθος ημισίαζε, αποκατάστησον half depth, restore
τον Λάκωνα εξέλισσε, αποκατάστησον perform the Laconic manoeuvre, restore (don't know what this implies, perhaps the manoeuvre of feigned retreat, which was used by the Spartans in Thermopylae?)
το δόρυ περίσπα, αποκατάστησον half turn right, restore
το δόρυ ευκατάστησον κατ' αυτά και επ' ασπίδα, αποκατάστησον half turn left, restore
"Blessed is he who learns how to engage in inquiry, with no impulse to hurt his countrymen or to pursue wrongful actions, but perceives the order of the immortal and ageless nature, how it is structured."
    Euripides

"This is the disease of curiosity. It is this which drives to try and discover the secrets of nature, those secrets which are beyond our understanding, which avails us nothing and which man should not wish to learn."
    Augustine
