As Of Now Which Total War Game Do You Prefer?

I know this is taboo by asking in the Empire forums, but there isn't exactly a "Total War General Discussion". So I came to where the most traffic is.

Now the question is which game in the entire Total War series do you prefer? Please explain why also.

For me it's Medieval II. It was the first Total War game I played and I loved it from the start. I just loved the history, the era, the warfare, and to me it has been the only Total War game to be almost completely stable in all areas. It was just a really fun game and for me.

well rome was the last innovative game they ever made. once they saw how good they made it they figured from there on they'd just update the era, change some of the agents, and re-release.... and that's where we're at today

True rome makes medieval total war look so primitive. none of the recent games have had the impact and been the massive leap than rtw was.

I loved RTW (it was my first tw game) but i think the best one is M2TW Kingdoms for overall good gameplay, graphics and features. With mods it is a thousand times better of course.

After the first few patches i liked ETW, but I would have to say Rome was my favorite. Honestly I dont want to even think about how many hours i logged with Rome. I played Rome well into the release of MTW2 Kingdoms and now Ive started back up playing rtw with Mods like RS, which makes the game 100 times better.

I could easily see myself playing RTW for a long time now (after the whole issue with Modern Warfare 2 for PC) and the only thing that might stop me from playing rtw is R2TW!

MTW1 because the CAI could handle this type of campaign map much better which helped to make many battles pivotal affairs.

The battles themselves could be epic with the AI manoeuvring in terrain that really did matter, a slight hill could swing a fight.

Great music and I have forgotten the bad things.

My sentiments as well. I would have loved a Rome game on the MTW2 engine. There is one mod out that does that IB2 but to me it is still a ways away from being a Stainless Steel.

Rome, all di way. The best game, the best modding platform. Medieval 2 would have been better, had it been as kind to modders as Rome.

Rome would have the been the eigth wonder of the world without hard-coded limits, though...

All of them are great, but I like Empire best. Most features, best graphics. Especially now that it's patched up better.

Rome and Medieval II are excellent as well.

Aw man. I loved all of them, but ever since my first musket on musket battle, I just can't go back. Here I have been in every history class, making fun of how the Europeans line up neatly to shoot each other, and it turns out fighting such wars are insanely deep, complex, and fun! Not to mention the thrill of charging cannons, flanking armies, and holding the wall at all costs. Creative Assembly is totally the best history teacher I ever had

I am sorry, but that is pathetic....

Creative Assembly loses more historical knowledge every year they deliver a game to public.

On topic Rome by far it had one of the best time periods and it has developed some great mods over the years.

Kinda I like RTW, M2TW and ETW equally, because everyone has different flavour. I started little bit late with M2TW (after some time I found my favourite PDER mod), then I tried RTW (with RTR mod very soon) and then I just played one or another, according to my mood. Then ETW arrived and I like it, but I have played vanilla only so far and that is little bit different. ETW has deffinatelly the best vanilla, but moders have done great job with previous ones, and I think that after ETW will be stabled, and mods as well, I will have a look around and find something. I also plan to play M2TW as I am waiting for PDER 2.0 and RTW as there is some work around new RTR if I am not mistaken. Also very interested around EB2 for M2TW. So interesting times await.

I have played and enjoyed all of them. That being said, the one that I CURRENTLY play the most is ETW. I keep going back to the others, especially RTW and MTW2, but ETW is the main one for me. I think a lot of it also depends on what book I am reading. Once I decided to reread "Rise and Fall of the 3rd Reich" , I jumped ship to Paradox' Hearts of Iron III for a while. Now I'm back to ETW until I read some Roman or Medieval history book.

I thought I hated Empire when I first played it, the errors and the bugs made it annoying for me to play. But when I decided to give M2TW a try, I got slaughtered after forgetting all the tactics. As much as I'd like to go back to M2TW or RTW, I just can't do it. All the new features, such as trade hubs, plantations and the new armies, I just can't see myself going back.

Orginal Medieval, good atmosphere, cool knights, accessible and games are generally better when your ten years old!

now that there's been a bit fo patching, i'm actually enjoying how the AI in empire sticks to alliances.. not only that, the alliances it builds are logical and often against a common enemy.

it has plenty of flaws,but people forget how many flaws medieval 2 and rome had... alliances didnt work - and there was no point to having them. so bugs aside, empire is an improvement.

i do love though, how there's always one or 2 die hard medieval 1 and shogun fans who will always be that way... no matter how good the arguments against them. i installed shogun again last year and couldnt play it for more than an hour. i've got more sophisticated games on my cellphone now..

I just enjoyed that game more than the others, I like that time period and its beautiful.

Rome for me, followed by Empire. It's a matter of preference more than anything, but I love Rome and enjoy the period it's set in a great deal.
