    Default Treachery!

I always play with loyalty on, but I have never had an important general go rebel on me, until today. I am playing a Syracuse campaign and I have pretty well destroyed Carthage. I am hurrying to take their three remaining settlements before Iberia can get their Gazpacho soaked hands on them.

Anyway, I only have one main army, and it WAS generaled by my faction heir, a ten star. I am keeping Africa Eastern Civilized, building no Greek barracks or colonies. I am doing this for role playing/difficulty reasons as it necessitates my sending my armies home occasionally for retraining. Anyway, I needed to retrain my main army and sent it back to Syracuse. It consisted of 4 Greek Hoplites, 4 Syracsuan Hoplites, 2 Greek skirmish cav, 2 heavy peltasts, 1 archer, 1 Balearic slinger, and 5 phalangites. So, I get them all retrained, and their weapons and armor upgraded to silver. They all have between 3 bronze and 2 silver chevrons - except the general, he has 1 gold. On the way back to Africa I decide to make a pit stop in Sardinia and conquer the island and destroy the last large Carthaginian army. I land my troops, and the next turn - they go Greek Indy! The entire group. Aside from this army I only have militia units as garrisons and a few Numidian Cavalry on anti rebel duty.

At first I was pissed, but then I thought it would be fun. I am just happy they were on Corsica with no boats, because I would have been defenseless against that army if it were in Sicily or North Africa. Anyway, this is a cool feature that added a bit of surprise to a campaign I thought was going to easily!

look on the bright side... It reduces army upkeep dramatically... or if you were making an AAR and this happens, think of it as an interesting plot twist which gets audiences at the edge of their seats...

Yes, but how normal is your faction heir to change... faction? I mean I believe this should never happen. A faction heir? And also a gold chevroned one, meaning an old veteran who spent his whole life fighting for the honor of his country?

Historically it happened from time to time. Alexander got along reasonably well with his father, but even he had to flee into exile for a while, when his father got himself a new wife.
