    Default Who's our badger?

Who designed the badges that we're currently using?

That is a good question. *researching*

I believe the member is, Raradir, although if I'm not mistaken, I believe that some of the badges have been changed since.

Here is the thread I got the answer from: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=243794

Yeah, Raradir's the artist though both he and others have made some minor adjustments to what won the original competition.

That's why I never liked the idea of a public vote. As I said in this thread,

It'd always be myself, Manji would jump in, and other graphically talented fellas would "bring the heat" of sorts. I preferred this sort of competition better. It was more informal and I could actually get feedback on my concepts and ideas before we put the badges into effect. For the recent competition there was no feedback and so after the badges were implemented people expressed their opinions...when it no longer mattered because the set couldn't be changed. If we had had feedback before implementing the current set then maybe we wouldn't be having this discussion right now. Another plus of the old days of badge making was that it was done in the CVRIA where we know that the members care about TWC and are long-time members of the forum. This ensured that those who were looking and commenting on the badges had a more experienced, legitimate, and worthwhile opinion on what they saw. In the most recent competition I didn't see much interaction from our more senior members and not much interaction considering that a new badge set was going to be chosen. This made sure that once the badges weren't going to be widely accepted by those who would have an opinion on them.

I'm not saying I think that having the decision of the badges being public is a bad thing but it's my belief that not enough people knew about the new badge set being made and voted on to make the final decision a good one. A competition is good, it ensures the best out of everyone, but the "best" doesn't matter if there is no hardly any feedback for badge design and if member who really matter don't vote on it.

If we want another set of badges I think we should start from scratch.

    y

The link I gave has Desperado's announcement of the winner on March 29, 2009, so I guess it's up to each person if it's been "long enough".

    I'd definitely prefer this one:

Jefferson seems to great a figure to give to the rank of civitate, but the rest of those would be an improvement on the current ones, I think (though I don't by any means dislike the badges we use now).

Look at the badge URLs. Most of them have the name of the author in the file name. "radadir" is indeed the one who made most of them (I apparently can't spell).

No disrespect intended towards the badges set or the artists involved. We have reached a new chapter in the TW saga, ETW is over, CA have moved on, Perhaps a little discussion on the future of our badges may now be timely Do we stick with the present 18th century batch, move on to the 19th century. Or take a new approach to the whole issue? It would be nice to see the suggestions. regards all. mags

I still think a neutral default skin, with neutral badges would be the way to go. As I have often repeated, we cater to all of the Total War games, not just Empire.

Greetings Nikos, Congrats on your promotion. I think it is time to shake a little dust off this neglected topic Throw off the shackle's of Empire, Man the barricades, Roll out Madame Guillotine, and have at the tyranny of Empire badges we have groaned under this past long year. Where are our stalwart artists and designers and competition organizers, Who is going to lead us to that bright dawn of freedom and a New Jerusalem.
Okay chaps, I am bored with the present badge setup any chance HEX and Curia and Citizens of a change.

I have actually started an initiative on this in the content forums. I have created a thread there for all of TWC's content artists to design new badge sets, and even a new forum skin for Napoleon: Total War. With their permission, I will post some of their work in this thread.

I personally feel we should be able to choose out badge set just like we choose skins. I would personally prefer mini user bars.
