    Default Rebel El Cid

You probably know that he exists but he now was rebel and I had to fight him!

I still besiege the castle because I attacked with 850 men vs his 350 men and he still won!!! El Cid made my units run like little children!

I'm now waiting him out, he's too dangerous!

I would have bribed him if I had money, but I don't.

Pretty funny that this man actually showed me that outnumbering does not guarrantee victory.

    ¬_¬ knowledge?

el cid was the champion of castile and leon, but when the two-kings (brothers, and kings of castille and leon) he was "friend" of sancho, who got assassinated by his brother alfonso mainlly because alfonso was jealous that "el cid" was so famous, and after many problems with alfonso, el cid got "excomulgated" (idk the name in english, alfonso kicked him out of castille) , then he fought with any1 who could pay him, till he got his own army and became "sir" of many muslim reings and took valencia (he died bcs of an arrow after-battle there, but they just made his dead body ride the horse because he died at home and soldiers didnt knew he was dead, and every1 followed him and won a battle -_-).

And he was always christian, he only "worked" for muslims. In fact, in valencia a moorish guy killed one of his friends, and he sieged it for 19months, and with him the city became christian.

He was a 2meter man who could use a two-handed sword with one hand, who wants to fight him in those times which every1 was 1.5m?

In fact he's spanish national hero probably, altho we have many to take .

This is very short of course, you can read it fully on the ing very long book "cantar del mio cid"

well they probably used something to keep him "up" and people around him probably (other high-ranked soldiers?) noticed it, and they probably knew it before, you know medieval times aint films where the general goes in front of every1 saying "ey you joan, your the great mastah"

Its not only that they used his body to encourage his own soldiers, also to dis-encourage moors, since they feared him a lot.

and well, his horse was "babieca", he was with him all his life (at least battle-life) so i guess it was well trained -_- (im reading that he could ride it like elves in LOTR i mean... without... cords and those things?)[obviously in battles it was really armored]

anyways there isnt any history man who can say its 100% true, most of what we know about "el cid" comes from an anonymous book called "cantar del mio cid" which its really long, and its... "songs and other poetic things" about his life.

If you love history and legend and stories of conquering heroes, you would love the story of El Cid, or "The Lord." El Cid was a man named Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar who battled against invading Moors or Muslims in Spain in the 11th century. El Cid was so legendary in his battles and his rulership that two of his weapons, the Tizona and the Colada sword of El Cid, both are revered to this day. They are two of the best-known swords in all of history, and to this day it is believed that their craftsmanship and quality is unmatched by any other swords ever made. Tizona stays at the Royal Armory Museum in Madrid, while the Colada sword of El Cid is said to be at the Royal Palace.

btw killing el cid was always easy on my campaigns, ok not himself, but his army.

Siege him for 5turns, then he goes outside of the city and you rape him there

btw disorientalist, el cantar del mio cid says many things that are true for real , of course they are songs. But you can get info from there =)

rodrigo diaz, or el cid, by all accounts,
died in his bed, and old man.

He was a chritian lord, who fought for Spain, was exiled and became a mercenary. His title is actualy Arabic, El Sayid and given to him out of respect years after his death.
Eventually, he became loyal only to himself and his followers and conquered a fiefdom arround Valencia where he would retire.

Militarily he was undefeatable in his time, in large part because his men loved him and because he was not afraid to take advice. This made him unique in Iberia.

El Cid, El Campeador died of an illness, and then shortly after his death, his body was tied to a pole on his horse's saddle, that made it look like he was riding it, in order to boost his men's morale.

    nice story

but i really like the man's nickname, El Campeador, the only spanish word i like

I got spanked once by El Cid. I had a crap stack taking a series of rebel provinces and made the mistake of sending it to take Valencia. It had already been through 4 or 5 sieges, had had little in the way of reinforcements, and all units were about 1/2 strength. El Cid sortied out and, despite having a decent general in my army, my units fled pretty quick. Ever since I've treated him with due respect.

In my last campaign as Castile I watch the Muslims try to take Valencia at least four or five times, and get whacked miserably each time. I decided to save him for last... Helped met take Corduba though.

I wonder, is it possible to bribe him into the faction?

Bribing this fellow might be hard. VERY hard... you will need at the very least 100k, which i am pretty certain that it wont be enough. The only way that i see him being bribeable, its by editing his traits on descr_strat, giving him traits like Expensive Tastes and such. You would still need a whole lotta gold for it!!

I managed to end this with a Zeppelin reference!! +rep for me plx!

you have to take into account that "el cantar del mio cid" is probably a legend, probably created by the clergy of those times to domesticate and christianize feudal warriors - court love did that - but mostly "El cantar de roldan" and "el cantar del mio cid" are just myths to justify the creation of a christian state in opposition to the moorish domination. You cant seriously said that what is written in those old books amounts to history as we try to conceive it.

yea El Cid did use a two handed sword he was like the William Wallece of the Iberian. I believe he was definatly up there with the champions of the middle ages. I must warn what im about to say is very naughty and evil!!

The only way I've found to 'convert' El Cid is to use the Add_Money its terriable but effective. Maybe stick a diplomat right next to the castle and bribe him. Hell when i played tutonic i managed to bribe William wallace .

    2handed swords,

Tizona and the Colada were the two swords of El Cid
Neither looks to be a two handed weapon.

Tizona looks to be a single handed long sword, Colada a bastard sword.
In both cases, for its era and origin, they look like very beautiful weapons, more suited a general than warrior.

Two handed swords were best when fighting pikes, they were used to smash pike weapons in formation and breaking up the unit of the formation. Not a good sword for a general, too big. They became more prominent later, 14 century, Pike and musket era.

Now, I must state, I never saw the swords in person, only picts, they may in deed by 6 ft of steal, but I would be very surprised.
