Does this make me a racist?

"You need to pay for whites invading africa and killing my people and making them slaves"
To which I replied
"I'll pay for slavery when you pay for Africa invading Rome and killing my people and making them slaves"


Now, this has got me thinking. Was that a racist thing for me to say?

I was offended on the racial level at having my skin color used to assume things about me, and I know if I'd have made assumptions about him in the same way I'd have been arrested for hate crime. I've never had such an encounter before with a non-Arabian, so it was unexpected to say the least.

His statement was utterly ridiculous, as was your rebuttal.
I'm skeptical as to whether anyone would just come up to a stranger and say such a thing unless they were troubled in some way.

I was with a group of friends in town centre.

I happened to be the only white guy in the group and a guy in another group didn't like that, so he came and confronted. Left it out because I didn't want to attract any stupid comments.

As for my rebuttal; I intended it to be equally as stupid as his.

That would have been a fine point, had it actually happened. Worth pointing out that it was black African slavers who sold slaves to the West. Also we were the ones who finally abolished the trade in slaves that had been going on for thousands of years, well you can say that if you're British or living in the northern part of the US anyway.

Don't worry about it. Breathe too loud, anymore, and you're accused of racism. I'm a "racist" simply because I oppose Obama's healthcare policies.
