    Default making knights run

Does anyone else have the bug where you a bunch of nights to run somewhere they ignore you and and walk? when this happens I try double clicking, using the run button, sending them some place else but nothing seems to work. I've lost loads of cavalry to charging infantry this way and find it real annoying.

If anyone else knows what I'm talking about can you tell me what to do when my knights decide to amble instead of running?

I guess it's a sign of a good game when the bugs annoy you so much.

Yes mine sometimes dosn't pick up on the double-click.

In your battle circle thing, where the commands are like stop etc. Press the run.

It's a bit of hassle if it's a fast moving battle but, either that or turn your graphics down so your game moves faster and recognises the click.

Happens to me sometimes when the cavalry is exhausted/tired/winded, when on snow, going up a steep hill, when spread out of formation (sometime just one knight still caught up in an enemy unit), or when engaged in a melee fight and don't want to retreat. Also when I sally my cavalry out of the door in a siege battle, they just walk until all of them are out (or when going back in). IT's a rare occurence, but can be real annoying when doors stays open for the enemy.

    Yeah, same here,

-To OP, check if they are tired.

What really blows is trying to chase a routing unit.

Sometimes it works just fine, other times they just run parallel to the routing unit untill its off the screen, killing maybe 2 guys of the unit.
Most of the time however, they run after em, and when they nearly catch up to the routing unit, they just stop, stand still for 5 sec and continue chasing, then again and again and again.

Really friggin' annoying, especially when you trying to run down an enemy general but just because the pathfinding or whatever sucks bigtime in mtw2, you can get him.

This was never a problem with rtw tbh, maybe sometimes they did the parallel thing, but like 70% of the time my cavalry would run down routing units without having to manually correct them 27 times.

That's what happens when you are charging archers, they are not routing, just on the skirmish mode. It's just stupid they can outrun galloping horse.

The one problem I noticed when chasing routing enemy is when they are part of reinforcement in a siege battle (AI defends). My cav runs to the routing units and just stops when reaching it. If I order them so that the enemy get absorbed by the cav formation and then order to attack, I still manage to kill most of them, but it's a pain.

    Nope, not just archers.

Any routing unit can cause the stop/run/stop/run for me.
Really annoying when using light cav and you think like oohhh 3 more secs and that general that's trying to run away is toaste... WTF??? comooon mooooveee you borderhorses MOVVEEE.
Nooohohooo now that general got away.

I swear they should make a punish button or decimate button in tw series for units that up like this

    Lol for that punish button.

Could be your cavalry is winded/very tired/exhausted, light cav tend to get tired very fast (mounted sergent, merc can be alright). Any way, when chasing the general, click your cav to go and intercept the enemy trajectory, don't double click on it as it will increase the distance your cav has to run.

Also sometime when the routing unit is spread in 2 groups or a long line (happens when I defend on siege battles and they rout from the wall and use ladder/tower)), then my cavalry just runs between the groups, it's a micromanagement pain in the ...

I play RTW quite often, and it has the same problem. It is often when turning a corner, or running in a city. Stop them and then move them to their destination as quickly as you can if the need is to escape.
In RTW, as someone else described, they will not chase routers outside of a settlement that is reinforcing the besieged. An option is simply telling your cav to attack non-routing units, and on their way they will chop up a few of the routers, but you may want to pull your cav out. You can also, if the gates are open (spies, ram/siege engines/routers opening them), you can tell your cavalry to chase a unit inside, and they will butcher all in their path. Use your common sense when chasing routers when there are active units though, don't make a fool of yourself.
    Rest in peace, Calvin.

It's very annoying when you order your knights to attack a bunch of archers and they start to chase two peasants. It doesn't matter that half of them are killed by the archers.
I also noticed the bug when I siege a town or castle and I can't catch the routing units by my knights.
