Easy enough. You'd aslo have the game wise starting positions.

Why not merge together the images of the Faction Starting positions, the images from "C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\Third_Age\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign" Those titled "Map-[Faction]. Just copy all the location colours onto one map and voila!
I did this some while ago, so unless you want to do it yourself, Evan, or want a bigger map, here you are

Edit: You could also use this map at your website, and maybe also add a link to download the big version of it:

I always had one MAJOR problem with that map: the Goblin passages in the south of the Misty Mountains don't line up.

Hey (and this may even be your plan) could you make the map interactive so each highlighted area leads to the faction it belongs to, great for the Factions Screen!

I don't have flash, but I do have Silverlight. Is silverlight, in general better that flash? - Will people download the plugin?

Just learn actionscript, it is free and opensource. You could best use FlashDevelop to make Flash movies.

You don't need flash to highlight the factions on the map.
And silverlight can be free aswell... just search for express editions on Google.

Silverlight is not better than flash, at this stage.
There are many more computers with the Flash plugin installed, than Silverlight.

However, Sliverlight uses C# or VB... which is way better than actionScript.
Adobe knows that... and that's why AS3 is more Object Oriented.

Flash and ActionScript are diferent things... and the same goes for Silverlight and C# or VB.
Flash and Silverlight are IDE's... so if you REALLY want to compare them... you have to look at the full package.

But the opinion would be JQuery, it's free, and it doesn't require any plugin at all.
If you use Visual Web Developer Express 2008, you can use breakpoints to check the JavaScript values (JQuery is a JavaScript framework).

JavaScript doesn't work on all web browsers, when Flash does.

    ?!

Flash doesn't work on all web browsers, because it requires a plugin.
JavaScript runs on all top web browsers...

However, the user can disable the javascript, the same way that the user can choose not to install flash.
But by default, the browser supports javascript... and doesn't support flash.

Althought some users, disable JS to get more safety while surfing the internet, they should always enable it for safety websites like Google, Gmail, etc etc etc... and they should consider your website a safe one, because you will have a very specific kind of visitants.

And if you use JQuery or plain JavaScript, even with it disabled, they can interact and use the map... if it's in flash and they do not have the plugin instaled... they wont even see the map.

    For instance... my website:
    www.marcosilvadesign.com

If you uninstall Flash.... you don't see the main animation.
If you disable the JavaScript, you will not the see the small tooltips on the litle browser icons (on the bottom right), but you will still see the browser icons.

PS: sorry, but the website is only in portuguese.

Unfortunately i don't have the time that i would like to have... so althought i can give you some directions... i cannot be so helpfull as i would like to be.
But ill be "arround", following this thread.

But honestly i think you should do a couple of Googling, before making such statements.

(i still haven't found the time to play TATW for the last 3 months ... so no 1.3 for me )

TBH as long as I can get the effect whether it be Flash, SilverLight or JavaScript, I would just like to get that effect and don't worry I have plenty of help over here. But I will update this thread as I complete stages.

Yes you could also do it with Javascript. IMO it doesn't really matter much though i always prefer AS3 over JS. Jquery is very good though. Probably your best bet when using Javascript for something like this.

You shouldn't prefer Flash nor Silverlight over JavaScript... there are many reasons for that.
