    Default The Athiest Experience

Does anyone else watch this show?

I find it quite entertaining watching fundamentalists arguments get stomped on by the host's reason and logic..

i think that although they are sometimes harsh, they are concise, polite and often funny with the way they handle their case

I watch it quite regularly on their channel.

    Here

The best ones are the call in only shows, it's very funny to see people who know what they are talking about argue with those who can't even come close to being coherent.

IM GONNA PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE FOR JESUS!!!

JESUS WOULD BE VERY HAPPY WITH ME!!!

    hahahahaha xD

the best part is where they get a hardcore funadmentalist on the line and they are trying to get a point across to them and the hosts walk them along their reasoning hand in hand until they get to the point where there is no god and the caller just goes off their rocker... it makes no sense

Matt Dilahunty is certainly a joy to listen and is very good at articulating various arguments and counter-arguments on these matters. Jeff Dee and that tall guy are also quite good, but the rest of them are not very enlightening.

They always make some good points though, and I think the goal of the show (making people call in who have questions about atheism) is a quite admirable one.
Although they sometimes get dragged away by their goals. I cringed when they started bringing up the Mithras parallels, for example.
But yeah, overall, a good show.

i thoroughly enjoy how their arguments are so sound and yet as polite as possible... they are as kind as one can be while shaking the foundations of ones' beliefs

Anyone who can get his beliefs shaken by something like that probably wasn't that strong of a believer anyway.

So a strong believer is someone who doesn't listen to a reasoned argument.

    I'm just following your logic.

Eh? I'm not saying one shouldn't listen to an argument.

You can listen to well reasoned arguments without having the foundations of your beliefs shaken.

I've listened to well reasoned arguments for both communism and libertarianism, for example, and I've not had my economic beliefs shaken by them.

    Actually that is a falsehood.

For a completely reasoned, logically sound and demonstrable argument to be presented to you and you do not except it as being accurate, that is denialism.

You have chosen to not adhere to what has been shown to be accurate.

If your beliefs have not been shaken it is because you have found some fault.

If you find some fault with their arguments then address it with them.

You didn't reply to the next part of my post.

That part could also be applied to any number of areas where there is no clear consensus in the scientific community:
    Climate change
    Big freeze/heat death
    quantum mechanics/string theory
    etc.

Apparently well over half of the scientific community is guilty of denialism.

Your making the errant assumption that a well reasoned arguement is by definition accurate and true. An arguement can sound pretty but still be false. It isn't "denialism" so much as he hasn't been convinced.

By "most easy to pick on" does he mean "least likely to blow him up"?

Because I know a group that you can get riled up with a mostly innocent drawing. Those guys definitely seem like they would be easier to pick on.

How can it not be accurate?
Maybe not everyone is that gullible to change their philosophy every time someone says something that sounds reasonable.

Yes you would be gullible to accept something that you were manipulated into believing even if it sounded reasonable.

But when something is factual accurate and flows sound logic steps.

To refuse to accept that is denialism.
