    Default Portugal campaign gone bad...

Ok, I have been playing as Portugal(no cheats) I am about 172 or so turns into the campaign. I have taken all of France,Milan, England, Scotland and Part of Denmark and Holy Roman Empire. It was stupid of me but I allied with Spain. I guess they were power hungry because they just started to attack me and Toledo is a citadel, they have taken almost all of the Iberian peninsula already all I have left is Lisbon and Cordoba. Now back to the citadel Toledo is the center of their military whilst my main Military Citadel is in Hamburg, the closest military area I have is Toulouse and the Moors just will not stop attaccking it so I cannot get any units to fight spain because The moors just keep on attacking, and I have to fight the moors with those units. Any suggestions of getting out of this with Spain destroyed.

First: Looks like a bad situation.
    ...
Secondly: Can you give a screenshot? It would help a lot.
    ...
Okay. This is what I may do. Written in this way because it's easier to understand now. Sorry if it's a bit confusing text. Despite of it I strongly recommend you to read this.

    ...

    1. Relations

Always keep good relations between you and your allies. If you're playing on easy or medium difficulty, it's not hard; your relations improve all the time automatically (on medium, they are stable) and no money gifts or such things are needed. On hard, you must give a money gift sometimes because your relations lower slowly, and on very hard you have to fawn the AI from turn to turn to keep up the good relations; they lower quite quickly on VH. It's not enough that they're your allies; you have to have good relations. Nearly no one knows about that "normalise" trigger because it's apparent in game files only.

So, recruit a diplomat if you haven't one already. It's better if you have because he probably has better politic skills. Then save (definitely!), go to talk with a Spanish warlord (or captain/settlement), give them some money to appease them, try to make a ceasefire and if you manage at doing it, ally with them again but keep up the good relations this time, by tributes for example.
When this is done, the Spanish king should start a war with the Moors. This happens always, I've never seen Spain and the Moors at peace during a campaign. If you have much money, give a tribute to the Spanish guys because then they can recruit still bigger army. This is the way I completed the Reconquista in less than 20 turns in Stainless Steel 6.1 (as Spain however). The AI is very effective at beating the Moors if you support them by your money and armies.

    2. How to defeat the Moors (and Spain as well)?

Ally with the Spain. When this is done, you can focus all your attacking power to the Moors.
You said that Toledo has been conquered. I can suggest only one thing for you:
    Don't conquer Toledo, because
    a) the target was to ally with Spain
    b) in "Vanilla" (unedited) M2TW it's very very easy to get a new citadel
    c) you'll get it later
    d) you have other castles too
    e) it would take too big piece of your valuable time.
Recruit troops in Toulouse and other settlements. A skillful player can win a battle of 1000 against 4000 men, so don't be afraid of using Spear Militias and such troops - they're quite good at all. Recruit elite infantry in Toulouse, some cavalry if available in there but especially in northern cities, then bolster your army with spare troops like Spear Militias.
Use the terrain, especially bridges and forests, on your advantage. Think wisely what to do. It's not clever to lose your troops for a Moorish army that can't do anything. However, you should always hit armies if they have only a few men (less than 600) if there are no other armies nearby. Wait until the AI goes to the Spanish, then attack surprisingly. Always head to Cordoba, it's the most strategic position in the south part of Iberian Peninsula. Once you control it, you control the whole land. So, conquer Cordoba and then make peace (don't ally) with the Moors. Wait for some turns, recruit more troops and attack again, then make a peace and continue this until they're destroyed. Hold the rest of your cities on the Iberian Peninsula, they're very important for you at the moment.
When you've destroyed the Moors, use the same tactic for Spain; attack-peace-attack-peace, it's the most effective way.
And the most important thing: recruit many armies against the Moors and keep them close each other. This helps you a lot.

    3. What units to recruit?

As portugal, recruit most likely at least these troops:

    Portuguese Knights
I think that I don't have to say anything about these. Deadly, high morale and great defense. Use on flanks and support with Jinetes. Additionally these are great troops against the light infantry and cavalry of the Moors.

    Jinetes
They're great - recruitable in cities, so recruit lots of them, as many as your economy allows. Use these on flanks and concentrate their fire on an enemy infantry unit. Javelins are armour piercing, so these beat even heavily armoured troops.

    Pavise Crossbowmen
...of course. Very effective, use in front of your infantry.

Almughavars, or Lusitanian Javelinmen at least
Use behind your infantry. Very effective at close range.

    Pike Militia or Aventuros
    For killing Moor cavalry.

    4. Other

Vanilla AI is very poor, and I suggest to use a mod.

    ...

I hope this post helped someone. I wrote this for a long time.

    And here's it compressed:

-make a peace and ally with Spain
-attack the Moors, then make peace
    -use attack-peace-attack-peace tactic
    -give the AI money gifts
    -head to Cordoba

    I hope I forgot nothing.
    Thanks for reading,

Word of advice in vanilla the AI will break alliances for no reason reguardless of relationship. There is a code which means after a long time of an alliance even if you are an extreamly trusted ally and vic versa the game gives a 20% chance it will break the alliance and attack.

When the AI attacks it goes for the weakest point based on front line force strength ratios and available free force strength ratios. This is why you are in the possition you are. When your forces went north you weakened yourself so the moors focused on you'r cities. You then let spain deal with a flank of the attack leaving yourself weak which is why Spain easily took Toledo and why it is difficult on the campaign map.

Your bonus is that the battle ai is dross and any units will do to defeat it just add spear, cavalry and archers. If you are not confident, play some customer battles on VH against the ai with a strong ai army and you with only militia cavalry, archer militia and spear militia. When you can win this battle you will be ready for anything.

    Good Hunting.
