Mine was the Brutii. I just love the East. Conquering Greece is always fun, Turkey and the surrounding Islands, and then the Middle East! It's so rich in trade and Culture. I love travelling to them regions in RL.

Greek Hoplites and Macedonian Cavalry is just so entertaining to fight against. Thrace and Pontus, always a challenge. Egypt, I love facing them. I just love the challenge.

Also the colour green is just EPIC.

I've never completed the Long Campaign conditions. It looked like I would on my first campaign, as the Julii, but I accidentally deleted the file. I've completed lots of Short Campaigns though.

first campaign as Brutii. faced with three options on menu start-up, red, blue, green, I selected green as it seemed appropriately military-coloured and I sure wasn't going to select red!! (football team aversion heheheh)

Having dutifully unlocked the other factions I have rarely played as a Roman faction since. Much more fun in playing the other factions and booting the Romans off the map!.

Brutii. I chose them because the Roman factions were the only ones available before I editted the descr_strat and I didn't want to play as the Julii. I'm with you Fireright, Romans are great fun to attack. Gaul is good to beat up too.

My understanding is that there is no evidence at all that the Romans wore red at all, it might have something to do with the British associating the Romans with themselves.

First faction I completed a faction with was the Julii, conquered the entire map with them in one of my later campaigns, my first faction I played with though was the Brutii which I didn't complete because I foolishly accidentaly deleted it. I would like the Parthians in Rome, but the colour arrrgh and the costums as well, not at all close to reality, but I like their starting position. Thank God for EB.

I agree, for some reason it is the red that is associated with the Romans. That is why I was put off with the early RTR mod because they had Romans there with brown and dark brown color of uniforms, shields, etc, and to me it was totally not suitable for the Romans.

Julii, dunno why actually. Maybe because of the position on the map. Maybe the fact that red suits romans i guess, and that fighting barbarians is kinda of symbolic for the romans. Anyways thou i played them little they grew on me in time.

Pretty much the same for me. A lot of people probably picked Julli as first because of Julius Ceaser, and the nice red colour(which is commonly associated with Rome), but the Brutii are so much fun, and in a few years you can get awesome rich.

I played my first campaign with them five years ago, and now i'm playing with them again

These were the factions that I played with in the vanilla game:

1- Brutii
2- Cartage (one of the campaigns that I most enjoyed in a TW game.)
3- Julii
4- Macedon
5- Gauls
6- I began a campaign with Parthia, but I didn’t finish it. I don’t like pink .

As you can see, I played at least with one faction that represents a different culture (except Egypt). This is why RTW is a great game. There is lots of variability (without paying for DLC’s ) and each faction offers a completely different challenge.
