    Default Adding more carnage and higher diffeculties

    Just a heads up.

    Now i know i might have been unlucky or just not observant enough, but i have yet to see the AI use schiltrom formation.

    I then decided to use shield_wall on all spear units instead. Now this changed things, AI loves shield_walls, where i normally could take a settlement/win a battle in a 5-1 ratio i now find myself placed in a 3-1 or even 2-1 ratio, using shield walls in gate openings and infront of a charge is something the AI loves

    It even tries to press through enemies using the run/attack mode

    Interesting find. Will keep my eyes peeled next time I fight that sort of unit.

    well shield wall is not a viking/saxon thing

    let's say you're defending your castle, you would create a barrage of shields and swords to stand your ground..


    nice find though.. it might spice battles a bit more

    This is just not true in my experience. It's very rare the AI will use shieldwall and when I've seen it the AI has had a high-star general and used particularly stupid tactics.

    I force the AI to use it using formations_ai. Which is effective more often than not so far.

    Which mod are you using that has the AI using shieldwall when available?

    SS 6.1 playing on H/H.
    I changed the unit file to give all spear units shield wall.


    Maybe its the SS mod that are changing the units formations. In any way the AI often uses Shield wall as defence.

    how do you make AI to use X abilities under Y circumstances using that?

    We cannot.

    We can specify formations for attack and defence against infantry or cavalry but this relates to the initial battle conditions not situations which occur after the battle starts... except in sieges but only because different formations are used at different stages.

    The only way to get what you want is to script... and if anyone tries then good luck with that!!! It would be awesome to have flexible use of these abilities but it looks extremely hard to pull off without breaking the AI. If a unit is doing something scripted then it is not doing what the AI tells it to do. So either you have a script which is so flexible (and huge) that it can replace the AI or you have probably broken it.

    Ai loves Shield wall? I have many units with shield wall in my mod and I haven't seen the AI using it ever. Perhaps I just missed, but still...

    PS. I use Lands to Conquer AI and BAI.

    You could try swapping in their AI, Alhoon. Just config_ai_battle.xml should be OK for testing this feature.
