    Default Campaign completion preferences

We've all been there...time for another campaign!! heheheh..faction/difficulty selected.....let the conquest begin!!

After mucho battling and skullduggery, campaign fatigue alas usually arrives at some point and a commander concludes they have clobbered the map to their satisfaction.

I usually conclude my campaigning a few turns after the long campaign, having nabbed a couple of extra towns I'd had my eye on, or finishing off a particular annoying ai faction.

At what point do players consider their campaigning complete? short objectives? long objectives? Or is the thirst for conquest not satisfied until they've conquered the entire map on every campaign they commence?

Usually when the game becomes markedly less challenging. I at least keep going to take Rome because it's always a fun battle. Usually I play for at least 15 years.

I am only completing my first long campaign (as Scipii) - now sluggin it out with the other Romans. I would probably finish the other Romans off entirely and see whether there is something interesting left to do. The British and Pontus have become quite strong. It may be worthwhile challenging their high-end troops. Attacking Carthage in the beginning was quite boring, as I only faced skirmishers and Iberian infantry - well, and some elephants, which were the only challenge.

My campaigns usually last a long time. A very long time. I usually take up most if not all of the allotted capaign time and complete the faction objectives, usually a western campaign so therefore Rome and 49 other settlements. I do not blitz the map and usually wait for the AI to make the first move, then dealing them with utmost precision counter-attacks. Then rebuild, build economy, become stronger, ait for AI to attack again, counter again. I get the maximum satisfaction from this technique. Add a civil war and you get hours of fun.

I wont blitz a long campaign. I will just play lets say 20 turns (If Julii turteling) and then make a save and not play for a while. I like to make it more historicly similar and difficult and then when it gets to about 100BC I will try and defeat the Roman factions. Generaly I like to build the Roman Empire as was rather then take the Map. I go for the Trajan Borders extent. Anyone else I take Rome and stop.

As Armenians I play it in a survival style; what I do is just take one outlying town, then build up the best defenses possible. Then I just see how long it takes for a powerhouse to come after me and I hold them off. Gets some fun battles usually.

When rtw was all new and shiny to me, I recall ploughing on with my first ever campaign as the Brutii and conquering the entire map...something that just had to be done at the time!!

Entire map conquests have since been done a few times, most enjoyably I recall with Carthage and my fave faction the mighty Seleucids.

Nowadays though it seems a right old chore to attempt a full map conquest and campaign weariness sets in. Usually I conclude a campaign a few turns after the long objectives and leave the campaign tucked in the save files for resurrection at some later point.

The city of Rome of course must be crushed in every campaign I commence. It just doesnt feel right leaving the Roman vermin alone in such a mega-city!!
