    Default Royal Guards and Assassins

Had there ever been cases where these two face off against each other? Who usually came out the victor?
Were these fightings as cool as those "ninja" movies?

And no, I'm not talking about the royal guards doing the assassinations themselves. I want to know about the ones where the assassins were purely the outsiders.

I'd imagine real-life confrontations between assassins and bodyguards are not that spectacular. Just a bit of chaotic close quarters fighting really.

Ya, I'd kinda imagine it like one of those

    Assassin: Runs up DIE!

Guard: Scuffles with assassin, then knocks him unconscious with the hilt of his sword.

Then he'd probably stab him or something. When an assassin runs up, swords, except for maybe a hilt, won't count for much because of the close quarters...

I know the case when hashashins tried to assassinate Saladin in his tent, they managed to kille couple of his bodyguards but they were eventually overpowered and killed. I think that problem was that assassins had to wear light equipment to pass unnoticed while the guards were heavily armed and armored which gave them advantage in close combat.

I'm now reminded of another fun anecdote from Usama ibn Munqidh.

Apparently while away from the castle to enjoy local festivities with the Christians, a band of Hashashin infiltrates the manor and tries to take over.

Usama returns and with his bodyguards and other family members fights his way through the castle to clear it of any hostiles while trying to reach the womenfolk who, led by one angry matron, has been holding off the Hashashin.

    Because of Jodie Foster.

Btw. why am I the only one not understanding the question here? Whose Royal Guards, what Assassins?

The King of Jerusalem, Conrad of Montferrat, was mortally wounded by two Hashashin, before his guards could stop them, but in the process one of them was killed and the other wounded and captured.

I imagine feudal Japanese history is full of assassination-type battles and the like, such as the story of the 47 Ronin.

Most "Royal Guards" of the time were primarily tasked with escorting their monarch in and out of battle. The idea of modern bodyguards weren't as prevalent them as now.

Even 18 century Chinese emperors like Yong Zheng actually hired assassins and other spies for personal protection although the Ching Dynasty under him was at its military peak. Talk about setting a thief to catch a thief.

I think you actually do that assassination in the game Assassins Creed, but Im not sure if it was Conrad of Montferrat or another name
