    Default Saints

NOTE: This is not for debating about whether or not to venerate the Saints. Talking about the Saints and there qualities is encouraged.

I was wondering if everyone could tell me who there favorite Saint is, and why. It would be nice if you could include a picture or icon of the saint as well. The goal isn't to say "My Saint is better than you're Saint" but to encourage discussion about the qualities of the Christian Saint. If he/she has a particular importance to you, please speak up.

Ex: My favorite Saint is St. Anthony the Great(Also known as St. Anthony of the Desert). I like how even though raised in a wealthy family, he embraced the Lord and gave up almost all of his earthly possessions to the poor. In a world that oftentimes likes to accuse Christianity of being corrupt and not well-intentioned, there are the St. Anthony's out there that prove them wrong. He went into solitude with a group of hermits, but, wanting even more solitude, left them to go out on his own, just him and God. The Devil attempted to tempt him with piles of gold and silver, yet Anthony resisted, and before he died, instructed his followers to bury him in an unmarked grave. He is known as the Father of Monasticism, and because of his humility and unbreaking faith in the Lord, he is my favorite Saint.

As for a picture, he is actually my profile picture...

    Among my most admired saints
    Francis of Assisi, the stigmatist

Teresa of Avila whose body is now incorruptible

    Padre Pio, stigmatist

All are in my opinion great mystics. We cannot even comprehend their understanding and experience of God.
Knowing of hearts, bilocation, prophecies or prediciting the future, and I'm sure many many more are some of the traits that these people have gotten in their life on earth.

But among saints this has gotten my utmost respect and fear yes fear...
St Mary mother of Christ, the lady of utmost charisma, who intercedes for us who can resist or refuse you?. . .I used not to give too much damn about her though I'm Catholic. Now I give her my undue utmost respect.

Not a Christian; in fact, I hold to an opposite theological belief.
But I have a good deal of respect for St. Francis of Assisi, for St. Bridget of Kildare, and for St. Thomas Aquinas.

The Theotokos is great, yes. She conceived God at a young age, yet fulfilled all he wished of her. A great woman, no doubt.

Hmm to me she is more than great. No man or women can be ascribed to her divinity and grace of God.
The lady of charism. And by what mean by who can refuse her is that even now or especially now she has the grace of God and favor to such an extent that it would be hard for Christ and of God to refuse her. So I call her the lady of utmost charisma(profound charismatic divine presence). She is not among the dead and she faithfully under her own will intercedes for us.

And I used to look down on people who prayed in front of Mary's statue before and after mass....I was wrong.

in my personal opinion St Mary is able to at least to go toe to toe with the devil itself and at the very least not losing the battle. The woman who could put the proud satan to shame. It was Michael then it's Mary now if she only would. satan would lose more prestige losing to a woman lol.

As a former Catholic and now atheist St. Augustine's work has always intrigued me. He gives a strong intellectual backing to Catholic/Orthodox Christianity. As well as a detailed account of the early christian debates and the decaying roman empire.

My saint of choice is St.Augustine. His ideas were instrumental in forming the Church, and his mixing of Aristotelian logic and theology is intriguing. His life story is also inspiring.

St Michael the Archangel, patron saint of warriors and soldiers. Also God's Field Marshall and the one who cast the Devil from Heaven.

It is my great honour to have my poem Farmer in the Scriptorium here.

How about people that are not saints, but they are going to become a saint very soon?

I feel like I have to ask, who?

No man or women can be ascribed to her divinity and grace of God.
You believe Mary was divine? I'm pretty sure that's heretical, even by Catholic standards.

I wrote profound charismatic divine presence.
That came from a personal experience. I never worship Mary as I worship God but she got my utmost respect. And I think you don't understand the word divine.

    From the dictionary:
    Divine: from or like God

I don't know what dictionary you're looking at but mine is: godlike; characteristic of or befitting a deity.

Besides, I don't think she was like God...

    Oxford Advanced Learner's dictionary.

and I wasn't saying that Mary was like God I was saying Mary is now from God. Her strong divine charisma revealed that she was from God.

I think you don't understand what I was saying. It's understandable as I was referring to personal experience.

Man, the Catholics are making Saints out of everyone they can find now, huh? Don't get me wrong, he was a good man, but I don't think he did anything particularly "Saintly."

Well what did you expect? Magic?

He did alot of good things, some big some small, even before he was Pope. He even had an influence in my early life, so it may just be that I feel connected to him somehow.

They have been for hundreds of years...

Look at all the Popes and rulers who were guilty of horrendous crimes against there subjects and yet were made saints, because what they did was considered for the bettering of Christendom. So at least when we make John Paul II a saint, we are basing his canonization on good deeds towards humanity. There also is a system to deciding...

My favorite saint is Saint Francis Assisi, the founder of Franciscan order a very peaceful society with a relatively clean rap sheet since its founding.
