Is it posible to call a Crusade on Orthodox factions?

I want the Pope to call a Crusade on Constantinople because I want to defend from loads of stacks (role playing reasons).

Yes it is possible. Assuming that you are playing as the Byzantines, just attack catholic factions and you'll get a crusade called on you soon enough. If you really want to provoke them, attack the Papal States

I've begun as a catholic faction to test it out and I don't see it on the crusade list, do relations with the Papal States and the Byzantines have to be bad for a long period of time?

In my campaign I have recently destroyed Hungary and exterminated some settlements, all relations with Catholic factions are very poor/terrible/absymbal (absymbal with the Papal States) and I haven't had a Crusade called on me yet, and I can't attack the Papal States yet because I have to retrain my troops.

The Pope can call a crusade against anybody. For the christian factions it requires poor relations (excommunication in the Catholic Factions case) How long has it been since the Pope called the last crusade do you remember it affects whether he will call one again. I think it has to be ten since the last one.

I checked the notepad files and could not find anything on it. Maybe the Orthadox factions dont get a look in because historicly there were never crusades against the Orthadox as they are not heritics and the crusades were origionaly called to help the Orthadox Christians. I dont think I have seen the Pope crusade against orthadox factions I just thought it was a likely weapon he could use. Your probably safe but let us know if he does.

Historicly they did. There were quite a few occasions that anti popes existed. They excommunicated each other and various rulers had to play a fine line as to who they supported for political reasons and who they thought might win in the long run. You would not want to be excommunicated by the winner would you.

You could just send ships and attack the ports of all the other Catholic factions and they will go to war with you. Not quite the same but since you are role playing just pretend he did call a crusade.

That was a factional divert, just like when you take a settlement on the way, the crusades were full of them. It was not however the target it was only retrospectivly accepted by Pope Innocent III who was not happy with it.

I know all about Venice's crusading diversions. In my current campaign, on Crusade to Cairo, I ended up taking Alexandria and Damietta, as well as Cairo, before any other faction got even close. Hooray for my base on Crete!

Other examples King Richard taking Cyprus, the First Crusade taking quite a few places before Jeruselem.

And in game me taking Sardinia and Corsica as england on the way to Jeruselem.

Ok in SS 6.1 campaign ai it will not call a crusade against orthadox factions. It is under the Papacy ai_label, you need something like xml notepad to change it. I would not bother it would be a huge hassel and might not work. If you choose to do this make a back up of the origional. I could not tell you how to code it as I have not looked that far at the papacy ai_label yet, but there is a section on crusades in there referring to Pagan and Islam only.

Just build a massive 10- to 20-stack fleet of your best ships and blockade Rome's port. That should piss off the Pope.
