    Default question about garrison script

I never activate the garrison when it pops up and that has usual worked fine . Am i right in thinking if you dont click it it won't run? I'm seiging selucia and i dont want the script to activate and fill there city full of troops . I can't seem to avoid it though , when the turns ends as i'm building my seige weapons there city fills with troops , the advisor pops up in the top left corner then dissapears quickly as all the other beggining of turn messages pop up .

How can i stop the script and the city filling up with troops. I'm sure in the past i just closed the advisor down and that would stop it.

You can't stop it, you need to use onagers to negate it by attacking first.

i coulda swore there was a way to not activate it by not clicking it or closing it down . Guess i was tripping.

I can understand why there is a garrison script but i don't like it when your playing on H/H or VH/VH as a struggling faction . It's just more cheating for the A.I. When you Armenia and you have killed countless stacks off selucid armies and you get to there capital and its suddenly full of an army you can't hope to defeat it's very annoying Shame its not an option . Would it be hard to implement it as an option instead off compulsary?

If you're not up to fighting a garrison script just dismiss the advisor when she pops up. Don't click on her portrait, just the X.

Come on they're not that bad. I think you have 4 turns to wipe out a garrison script before another one spawns. Just make sure you have some reserves close by just incase you make a tactical blunder.

yea i suppose its not the end of the world as siege weapons can prevent it , which i had forgot .

I mainly brought the subject up as the garrison is appearing even if i dont click the advisor , the advisor appears for a second as i begin a new turn then dissapears and the garrison appears before i can stop it .

If you do not click the adviser then the city WON'T trigger the script. IIRC.

If you really don't want scripts, you can also select 'no advice' when starting a new campaign.
Saves you a lot of trouble. I for one prefer the scripts because of their awesome armies

To be honest, the garrison script is rather annoying. After campaigning as Macedon, I conquered the 'historical' way, and my units had about three chevrons of xp, and the archers with 2 silver ones. I had greek hoplites and the normal phalangites, and I was in for a suprise as I sieged Alexandria, because what I thought to be somewhat veteran army, I was forced to retreat because fighting on the walls is a pain, in general, but flanking them with multiple ladders would of been impossible, because the wals were literally surrounded. The high xp normal phalangites smashed my greek hoplites on the walls, and I retreated because I didn't want to face the basilikon guard, on the walls.
I always prepare onagers for taking on cities with the script.
I just found it odd that levies could become elite basilikon guard, and have alot more experience than my units that have campaigned quite a bit. It did halt me in my tracks though, and I had to think about it carefully next time. Maybe if they were not on walls it would of been easier.

The romans kind of shrugged off my 8 xp cretan archers and rhodian slingers with gold/gold upgrades. This was pre-marian, which made it kind of a pain in the arse. I think the cavalry is perfect in this game, they can't stand up toe to toe, unless they are a cataphract. To be honest, horses are about mobility and shock in my eyes, infantry I regard as just pinning the enemy in place. Against the romans, archers I find are good for clearing out their cavalry and skirmish troops, and if the romans are being stubborn, and refusing to come down that hill, then a few casulties by missile fire will bring them down. I don't think archers are underpowered in this game, only against romans.

I think it's funny that people don't like the garrison script. I would like to see it expand in other cities, though with a less experienced army. It would make the game more interesting. The hard core armies should be reserved for Capitals and renown siege cities like we currently have.

Yeah. I suppose my problem with Alexandria was that I used a recently recruited force from Greece to storm it. The units with +xp shredded my Greek Hoplites. The main reason I like it is because it slows blitzkrieg.
