Default descr_strat error message on exit

I'm afraid I can't seem to play any of the campaings, imperial or provincial. I try selecting the Imperial, but it says I need to pick a faction. I pick provincial, click the senate one, and then it tells me the same thing. I exit out, and suddenly there's an error with data/world/campaings/maps/strat.txt I think it is. I'm playing with a fresh install and BI.

    ....
coinich, this may be a long shot, but go to that file given (the descr_strat). and open it

Near the top of this file, there should be a line like
    options bi
Try commenting out this line, ie: make it
    ; options bi
It might work for you ... I know it solved problems of a similar sort I had with ChivTW and Third Age. I didn't experience it with RS, but how knows ...

Don't know why that worked, but it did! Does this mean I don't have access to the BI features, such as night battles?

Edit, still didn't fix the error in Line 25, column 1, expected start/end date.

I've been playing 1.6. And it's really well done.

Yes. Could you post, in code tags, your descr_strat up until the landmarks sections?

... odd, the start date looks fine to me, however line 25 (for me) is the line
    unlockable
I don't have problems with the senate campaign, or at least others have got it to work ...
I think I have used campaigns with "options bi" off and still was able to use night battles ... or maybe my memory is faulty.

BI shouldn't be 1.4, should it. Drat, I have Gold. I'm not sure how to patch it up then.

Download the BI 1.6 patch and run that. The early versions of gold were 1.3/1.4 rather than 1.5/1.6.

Roger that, thanks. Any worry of needing to reinstall RS 1.6?

When you reinstall I suggest that you launch both RTW and RTW BI after the install and check the version numbers on the top right hand side of the options menu.

With some versions of RTW BI the RTW install is downgraded from one version (1.5) to and older version (1.3).

The 'select an item from the list' is caused by having the wrong version of the game.

Yes, you'll probably need to do a clean reinstall of everything. I wouldn't install the BI 1.6 patch over RS1.6 and then reinstall RS1.6, that is very likely to cause problems.

The BI patch upgrades RTW to 1.5 so it will overwrite a lot of stuff in the RTW data folder.

well I don't believe thats the problem because when I changed the ; before options bi it works all fine except for the senate campaign. Shouldn't there be another problem?

Well BI just gets stucked. It doesn't load and RTW doesn't show any version. It's just RS with another background

If you aren't following the instructions there's nothing we can do. Follow them to the letter. Install RTW. Install BI. Check version on the options menu. Patch to 1.6 if necessary (assuming you installed BI). Install RS1.6 to the RTW install folder. You quite obviously didn't follow this so there's not much we can do to help if you aren't going to.
