So Why Can't Atheists and Theists Just Get Along?

Ok it may just because I've been listening to too much 70's soul music (Drift Away for the win), but I think I wanna change this thread around.

So we've agreed that both Atheists and Theists alike can be equally volatile to others' beliefs, now the proper question here is why? Why can't well just get along, or learn to respect each others' differences?
Atheists, why can't you just accept someone has "decided to be an idiot and believe in a fairytale"? Theists, why can't we just accept that "they have committed themselves to hell" and so on and so forth?

Also I really don't think bickering or insulting the other is going to forward our mission huh? So Atheists, Theists, chill.

I'm an atheist/agnostic and I can only speak for myself, I respect your belief in a god, and I honestly don't give a since it doesn't effect my everyday life. Do what you like, pray to whoever, it doesn't make me "mad" because you believe in a god or whatever, and it doesn't make me want to convert you to atheism or try anything like that.

It's the other way round. Children wouldn't ever become theists if their parents or someone else didn't teach them. I was raised Catholic but don't remember ever believing in any of it...

I went to Mass on Sunday because I was too young to stay home when my parents went. Once I was old enough to be able to move around on my own and didn't have to rely on my parents for everything I stopped going.

No I'm not basing this on my internet interactions, because on the internet everyone is a little more of an arse than they would be in real life. This is just from my accounts at school, at home, in my general life. Someone sees my scapula fall out of my shirt, the following "conversation" continues:

"Hey, you Catholic?"

"Why yes I am."

"Pfft, you're an idiot then for believing in God."

And that's just if they're being nice.
