    I would....
I have played the newer and older games, and I am honestly impressed by RTW more than any other.

I'd recommend it, especially the Anthology Pack containing the original game and both expansions. Dirt cheap and plenty of
playability for the price of a few pints.

Of course, a few pints dont go amiss when plagued with a pathfinding knackered battle or the bugged siege tower.

100%. My favourite game of all time.

I would also point them in Roma Surrectum 2's direction.

No I wont recommend it, I know they have more casual taste and when they see me playing sure its the same reaction of awe and wonder of the graphics even if its 2004 then once the battle drags on they began to comment, "man this game sure is hard", then they saw the campaign map.........after 15 minutes....."boooooring"

Then I pulled off World in COnflict, then *thumbsup at friend's direction*

(Its clickable by the way....An S2 overhaul mod.)

Seriously. Click it. Its the only overhaul mod that's overhauling enough to bring out NEW clans

it depends what kind of person my friend was....

if he/she is interested in computers, then yes, if no, then no

I'd recommend the game, its stil really fun, pretty cheap by this point, and if your computer can't handle it then you're living in the stone age. If the person I recommend RTW to is more of a casual gamer or someone who lacks patience then they'll try the game, won't like it, and then we can have arguments about how we each think that the other person has stupid tastes in games. I see no downsides here.

Absolutely YES. As I've said in all my posts, IMO Rome is the best of the series and maybe the best strategy game of all time.

Rome is my favourite game in the TW series. It might have been graphically surpassed by Medieval II and ETW, and some of the features in the other games are better, but Rome is still my favourite. Probably becuase it was the most revolutionary title in the series after Shogun. ETW's new engine isn't that much of a jump forward from Rome's compared to Rome's move from Shogun's 2D sprites and 'chess board' style campaign map. Although to be honest the chess board style Campaign of Shogun and Medieval worked better because the AI understood it better. It's never managed to work out what to do on the 3D map.

I also loved the setting (I'm a Roman buff) so that's always a plus!

i agree. i loved mtw 1 a lot. i was still playing it (unmodded)
when rtw came out. ai was much tighter in mtw both on battlefield and campaign map and i liked the skeches much better, the artwork in general and the dark athmosphere. but in rome finally the units had details. it was such a step forward that i only tried playing mtw once again and i didnt like it anymore. rome was just so much prettier. m2tw i mainly liked because diplomacy was more moddable and made more sense and units with different men of course was nice as well. mainly i like medieval times better which is why i played slightly more m2tw then rtw but i agree rome really was a huge step forward. empire also is quite a new step forward with tech tree, sea battles, 3 maps in one campaign but unfortunately the love for the detail was missing. not the love to create detail and diversity but the will to finish and polish those details.
