Where do you think religion comes from?
God taught it to man
God taught it to man, but we've lost the message
Man invented it based on morals
Man invented it for profit or power
How about man created it to explain his world?
Would a christian please respond to what i said. I would prefer it if it was a christian that voted for the god option.
Do christians choosing the god option beleive christianity is the first religion?Christianity was not the first religion.
So if the origin of religion came from god , Christianity is not the correct religion. The first ever religion is.
No. Judaism is believed to be the first god-inspired religion, however, with the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross a new covenant was formed (as distinct from that of Abraham and Moses) to share the knowledge of God with both Jews and Gentiles.
Being "first", in terms of religion, is irrelevant.
Profit and Power? I can understand that with the pope, but who gets power from religion?
I can bet my $5 that you know full well what majority may choose. Yet you create this thread.
I think there should be a fifth option, I don't think religion was created with the intention of empowering or enriching someone I guess it probably came about naturally through worshiping people and animals whom subsequently turned into something far more powerful than a Hero or something that gives or takes lives, I would guess that some people after religion appeared probably used it to empower themselves, but also I am sure there would be the odd prophet or whatever who really believed what they were teaching or revealing and were probably a bit loony.
God taught it to man. Doesn't seem like the fully correct wording, but it's the closest.
Neither of them. Man developed it to make a coherent, systematic worldview and formulate cultural practices that would shape around that worldview. Ethical/moral philosophy is a part of this, but so are metaphysics and (primitive) sciences. Mind, most religions that exist today have changed and adapted to fit their worldview to the times; this is a good thing- they wouldn't be relevant if they didn't.
True, some people have used it for personal gain, especially in cases of civic or state religion.
But that is not the fault of the concept itself; that is the fault of those individuals.
Man didnt know who he was or why he existed, so as man had good fantasy he used tales to explain all these questions. Other people believed in this, they believed the man who had this great fantasy and in the end, Religion was created to answer questions.
Soon.... smart people used religion to gain power, scare and control people and to earn profit.
I said God taught it to man, but I do believe that many Christians have gone of course.
