    Default HB: News!

Good news! I have overcome some problems with the playable and non playable faction and i will releasing a new Historical Battle in some weeks + some fixes for battle of Agincourt. The new battle will be Hastings. I can't confirm a date right now because there's still much work to do before it's ready, but you'll have pics soon.

I have just received a message from Norman Invasion mod leader allowing me to use some of the saxon models for the HB. Now i just need LOTK authorization to add the necessary units (just 2 or 3, at least frydmen and huscarls). Hope he accepts! Anyway, I'll wait for RM3 to be released to add units. Until that happens, i will use the existing units + a script-made shield wall.

There you've got some pics of the battle:

As you may have noticed, I decided to release Hattin instead of Hastings... That's because I have got stucked with some scripting, and I prefered leaving it for later. I'll probably take 1 or 2 more weeks since the moment I can get a solution to the problem to finish Hastings.

    Hope u enjoy Hattin =D

    Update:
    - I'll be releasing Battle of Arsuf before January 4th.

    - Siege of Jerusalem will be ready later because I want to implement new things there and make it a historical battle that is worth playing it. I am trying to implement a dismounted general and a one-man unit (for Balian of Ibelin, defending the city). I'll take ideas from the plot of Kingdom of Heaven and from the internet in general (thanks God for giving us Wikipedia =D). My intention is to add speaches and some music as well, but I'm not sure of the result...

    - Another thing with Siege of Jerusalem is that it wasn't taken by force... so I don't know what the objectives will be... Destroy the muslim attackers?? Take the city plaza?? None of them would be very historically acurate...

Of course, both battles are thought to be playable with both factions (French/English and Ayyubids)

Thanks! I'm testing Arsuf now... I still have to solve some issues, but minor stuff, nothing critical. I'll try to post some screenshots today, but don't quote me on that...

    You didn't.

Take your time, this mod forum is a slow one, so feedback might be limited, as only a few follow this mod.

I was going to do it today earlier, but tw center server seemed to be down... Now, I don't have time, I'm such a busy man =P

Arsuf is finished, I'm facing some trouble with the damn intro sequence... I had it done but from one time to the other it stopped working correctly... And the errors change depending on which faction the player is using... so I'm just replacing the original intro sequences by a simpler one.

I'll try to post the battle tomorrow...

    Battle of Arsuf released

    Link:

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KKHCHQUY

    Installation instructions:
    - Unrar to your Rome Total War folder (NOT TO ROME MEDIEVAL MOD FOLDER, just to vanilla RTW folder)

WARNING: The installation of this HB will replace some original files regarding characters' names. This will result in some names changed when playing campaign. It is strongly recommended to make a back up of the following files:
    - names.txt (located in Data\text folder)
    - descr_names.txt (located in Data folder)

I am not proud of the intro sequence finally implemented, as it is not the original one, the one I actually wanted to release, due to some bugs in the script... I will release a new script when I can get the good intro sequence to work.

Screenshots soon (anyway, you can play it and see what it's about with your own eyes)

    Update:

    Bad news:
Next release will have to wait until RM3 is released, as I've heard that the campaign map will be modified (so that I'll have to remake the ground and much of the coordinates in the scripts).

    Good news:
Next release will not be just 1 HB but a pack of 6 to 8 new historical battles. The historical battles will be:

    - Siege of Jerusalem
    - Battle of Grunwald
    - Battle of Plowce
    - Siege of Orleans
    - Battle of Patay
    - Battle of Almenar

I may change some of those name (especially Almenar), and add some others. I'll try to take some ideas from AoE 2 historical battles.

    Expected new features:
    - It goes without saying that there will be siege battles.
    - Hero models and skins. They will also have their own unit card (in fact, every general will have their own), and some of them, in some battles, might be alone (1-man army)
    - Better intro sequences, with subtitles and (perhaps) dialogs.
    - Campaign names will not be affected.
    - At least one will be a night battle.
    - Unlockable battles: those battles that are correlated, will be part of "HB campaigns", and it will be necessary to win each battle in order to go on

The new heroes will be: Joan of Arc, Balian of Ibelin and Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar (El Cid). I'll just model those 3 units.

Ok, RM3 is out... but the HB's don't work now!! OMG, what's happening here?? The end of the world? I thought it would be in 2012...

Don't worry, there are 2 problems:
    1) EDU incompatibility with older version. As the new version includes new stuff and new fations, each HB script has to be fixed in order to play (FIXED)
    2) New map implies new coordinates and new ground heights/types. So, I'll have to remake all the battlefields. (WIP)

I'll concentrate my efforts on making the HB's playable again. In addition, as I love the new Scotish and English units, I'll bring you 2 NEW historical battles:
    - Stirling Bridge
    - Falkirk
