Default Inconvenience with the Senate campaign

I noticed that the Senate campaign plays under the vanilla Brutii. This conflicts with your starting place which is more similar to the Julii. You have to get around the Epirot city of Tarentum to capture the city across the channel. Would it be possible to make the faction the Julii so you can expand directly north instead of traversing the entire peninsula and having to build a navy?

Every time I play the senate campaign(has been 3 times now) I also get that mission. But also I get always a message from the Senate next turn that I am now longer required to take that particular settlement, even though I am still at war with Epeiros.

I'm not sure what the complaint is, your capitol city happens to be closer to the top of italy, but aside from that your position has nothing to do with the vanilla julii. In fact aside from not owning rome (and a boat that was moved) your position is identical to the RS imperial campaign. If you're talking about the first mission which asks you to capture that starting settlement . . . well you have your work cutout for you.

It is way too much effort for not enough benefit to change which faction the romans are.

thedudederek: are you assuming / observing that the senate "mission" locations, etc. are hard-coded depending on what faction the "Rome" in RS originally was built from? Interesting.

I agree with Squid that the fact that you have farther to go to accomplish the mission is a good thing. In fact, if you have to cross the Adriatic, there's no need to go by land anywhere near Tarentum. Just build boats and go for a sail.

That's odd, I remember a while back someone who relocated their faction in Vanilla into Africa or something. Said that the senate missions (after 1 or two of them) eventually focused on the new area where the faction was located.

Every time I've played they say you are no longer required to take it.

well... then just take the damned city to get the senate to stfu and then problem solved. Do keep in mind that the senate faction will probably act oddly if the Epirots and the Sicilians are still around. then after that the "missions bug" as I will now label it should be gone. Besides you shouldn't really have to care what the Senate does anyways. all you have to worry about is the People of rome because if they hail you like a god then you can go in and curb stomp the sentate for being a pain the behind
