    Default Be the Jury.

Twelve volunteers will be selected with some element of randomness to sit in a virtual jury.

Unlike most debates it will be necessary for there to be a reasonable time limit and an agreement at the end of it, all twelve people must form a decision that the person is either guilty or not guilty.

The case is about a murder. You will decide whether or not the man in question should face punishment. The time limit is seven days.

First check where he was, where, when or with who. If you have evidence he did it.

    I would call it guilty.

You don't know any details of the case yet. The point being you volunteer, get the details then decide. Innocent until proven guilty or at least tried by a jury

Let's think the unthinkable, let's do the undoable. Let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.

    Sounds interesting: 22, Mover.

Seems like time for a quote from Anatomy of a Murder:

Twelve people go off into a room: twelve different minds, twelve different hearts, from twelve different walks of life; twelve sets of eyes, ears, shapes, and sizes. And these twelve people are asked to judge another human being as different from them as they are from each other. And in their judgment, they must become of one mind - unanimous. It's one of the miracles of Man's disorganized soul that they can do it, and in most instances, do it right well. God bless juries.
If the soul is impartial in receiving information, it devotes to that information the share of critical investigation the information deserves, and its truth or untruth thus becomes clear. However, if the soul is infected with partisanship for a particulat opinion or sect, it accepts without a moment’s hesitation the information that is agreeable to it.—Ibn Khaldun.

I'll play along. Or, if not selected, at least follow along with the commentary.

That is, if all the necessary information will be provided and it's not a "gotcha" exercise.

It is and it is not, the verdict isn't to difficult (but it gets complicated) it is an unusual case I came across in a psychology lecture. I might be shocked and everyone makes the decision in 10 minutes, I think it is an interesting case though I'm looking for a consensus and hopefully an interesting discussion afterwards.

I'm still fleshing out the methodology behind this exercise, it can't be one of jurisprudence because no rea; prosecution and defence will stand and there are many nationalities involved. Instead I think that people will be asked to decide on responsibility and ethical culpability. With a secondary option of recommending a sentence if his guilt is decided upon. I might just throw it out and see what people make of it.
