Default Creating normal maps with GIMP and DXTBmp

    Hi

I'm new to skinning. I've been experimenting with textures for about a week and want to try and create normal maps for my edited skins.

I'm importing the texture files into DXTBmp, saving them as DDS files and then editing them with GIMP 2.

I have a plugin for GIMP that creates normal maps, but when I imported them into the game my units were shiny/transparent.

I tried playing around with the alpha channels but ended up making the units really dull (i.e. metal objects lost their gloss).

Can anyone point me to a link for a detailed tutorial, or give me a step-by-step here on how to make/edit normal maps using GIMP and DXTBmp.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For before they had never thought to see Persian dust; now they had found and plundered their still-pitched tents. Who could have expected the invincible Persian race ever to show its back to the Romans?" Theophanes

There is a tutorial for that in the Skins & Models section of the Tutorials section of the Mod workshop

    Thanks Caesar Clivus!

I'll take a look at the tutorial and see what I can produce at the weekend.
