    Default Civil Wars

If a civil war breaks out, do you have the option of joining the rebels like you did in the first game. This would allow you to get rid of a bad king and also be more fun. Also, they should only happen when you have a poor ruler for the simple reason that the nobles would not revolt against a good king because they would be unlikely to find support from the lower classes. The lower classes would be more likely to revolt against a king they hated then one they like. Therefore, you might be able to introduce a popularity system, either through an attribute that is specific to the king or some other means. Also, they should be less likely to revolt if you have a high dread rating. It is just common sense that the common people would not want to oppose a king they were scared to death of unless it had a serious chance of success.

    that's in Empire
The Duke of Dunwich and surrounding fiefdom

For any who are interested by my FF on occurrences in Rhun and beyond; I have begun a new project (not because the old one is finished, just opening more room for ideas) about one of the minor characters, Rankal. It is in the Third Age AAR index and here is the link http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=376994

If you play MTW not MTW II, it has civil wars and you can pick which side to join. I was wondering if this was an option again. I never did take part because they always seemed to happen at the worst possible time when I was in a military crisis. This was actually called in the manual of that game a good way to get rid of a bad ruler

In DotS civil wars happen when the king is weak. Iirc we already have given ruthless leaders "protection" against civil wars/rebellions through traits.

What about being able to side with the rebels if you want to. Time to turn the kingdom upside down

Precisely why I think you should be given that option, it is a great way to get rid of a royal family full of nothing but idiots

As a researcher I'll leave the question to those in team who understand the technicalities, although probably this can't be implemented because rebels represent rebel faction so their victory would mean the end of the whole faction (and rebel faction = all rebels in the map).

In the original MTW, this problem was fixed by which ever side you did not choose immediately became rebels , even if it was the royalist side

Yeah, but it's not that easy in M2TW's engine. I believe it may be possible to script because some of our transitions have this feature - choosing which side to be. However, I don't know what has been decided with the civil war script. Adding it to the regular civil war script might make it too weighty. Azim would be the best one of us to answer this question.

Moreover the whole DotS is about making the game more difficult, not easier. And civil wars result from the player not doing things right - certainly not always, chance plays its part as well - so making them opportunities (for getting rid of unwanted FMs) would go against our plans.

Can civil wars not take place starting on the second turn of the game. There is nothing less fun than clicking the end turn button after just turning your game on and finding 99.9999999% of your generals becoming excessively disloyal.

Edit: Including your faction heir! :p

Princes trying to overthrow their fathers was actually pretty common, When William the Conqueror died, his eldest son Robert was at the French court fighting against him. and I believe that at least one if not all of Henry II sons fought against him at some point

Also, joining the rebellion would not necessarily make things easier, the Rebels would likely control less territory, and possibly less troops then the royalists, making it extremely hard to win as the rebels
