Default Plz help. Can't open RTR Platinum!

Hello all. I just Dl'ed RTR platinum. I see the icons on my desktop for RTR and RTR BI. When I click on them however it says it can't find the files and uses microsoft paint to open it, showing only an icon of RTR. Anyone have any ideas how I can open this mod and where it may be? If I go into my Activion folder-RTW-I can see the icon for RTR, but again can't open it. Plz help thx.

Seems like you have pointed the installer to the wrong folder......if you're using the Gold edition of the game you need to point the installer towards The Creative Assembly Folder not the Activision one.

Thx for the reply Finn. I put it into the CA folder. Now I can get to the faction choice screen, but when I hit the button to start the campaign it says "RTW has stopped working". Any ideas? BTW I'm running Vista 64.

Can you confirm that you patched BI to 1.6

Yea BI patched to 1.6. It was a brand new install of RTW and BI.

Although the Gold edition(which I presume you are using) is supposed to be patched to 1.6, that is not always the case. The only way to confirm this is through the options menu in-game. I you are indeed patched to 1.6 then I suggest you uninstall everything and start again from scratch. This time however, make a copy of you RTR/BI folder so you'll always have a fresh/clean copy available in case something like this happens.

Ok brand new install same thing. No idea what I'm doing wrong. I extracted and installed RTR to my Creative assembly/RTW folder and it crashed after the choose faction screen. Anyone have this happen with a fix plz let me know.

Ok this time I installed the mod switch version into the CA/RTW folder. When I click the icon it says "failed to open the sound database" and "script error:oliphant not found", then back to desktop. When I dl'd RTR mod switch it said that my RTW versions werent correct, but I checked and Im at 1.5 and 1.6(bi).I don't see a separate folder for RTR to uninstall. Also, RTW still works. Any ideas? Don't wanna give up just yet.

You may have to delete RTW/BI manually so as to remove all traces of RTW. Below is a tutorial on how to do it. First you need to uninstall the game and restart you PC. Be careful not to delete anything non RTW related.

    1) Click Start, then Run.
    2) At the prompt type "REGEDIT".
    3) Click the "+" next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
    4) Click the "+" next to SOFTWARE.
    5) Click the “+” next to Classes
    6) Click the “+” next to Installer
    7) Click the “+” next to Products
Cool There should be a list of folders named with long strings of letters and numbers.
    9) Search through these folders for a key called “ProductName” that has the value “Rome – Total War(TM)”
    10) Delete the folder containing this key.

Then install RTR Platinum using the instructions listed below.

    1. Install Rome Total War.
    2. Install Barbarian Invasion expansion.
    3. Install the BI v1.6 Patch.
    4. Install RTR PE Mod Switch

    Good luck!

Did you remember to delete the map.rwm file either manually or by running the campaign_map_reset batch file? The result of not doing so is a crash when you want to start a new campaign.

I think I did Florin. Well I'm all screwed up now. I dl'd the mod to this folder "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome Total War\BI". It didnt work. I think I wasn't supposed to go into the BI folder, just the RTW folder. I'm trying a fresh install now. We'll see how this goes. so far the most luck I've had was a crash just prior to the campaign screen. sorry for all the posts, I just really want to get this to work.

The mod should go in the main Rome - Total War folder, not in the BI sub-folder. Which of the two RTRPE versions do you have? The mod switch one or the regular/non mod switch?

Does anyone know if I have to enact the script via the advisor? I thought I read that somewhere?

Ususally you have to manually start "any" script.

    On loading the game:-
Click on any settlement to make the advisor appear.
Click on the advisor to run the script.
