Default History of the city of Novgorod

Hey guys. Ive been pondering this for some time. Novogorod as it stands is a really key city in the east for any baltic player, and with Caesars upcoming battle for the baltic mod coming ive been thinking more and more of the histories of those lands.

In particular novgorod escapes me though. I fail to hear mention of it in any 20th century history, and though i haven't dug much, it wouldnt appear to exist in the russian empire under its medieval name either.

I realize some digging on my part could relieve my ignorance of early russian history but i thought it better to put out the question here, since you people have proven to me that many of you have some excellent historical sources !

Thanks in advance and my appologies if im slow to reply, i have a TV show to watch, a few movies, and a RTW SPQR and England SS 6.2 campaign both beckoning me provocatively, and about a months worth of french homework on the line !

While I hate posting links to Wikipedia, take a look at this page as a starting point on Novgorod's history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novgorod.

There is also this site as well: http://www.geocities.com/medievalnovgorod/

This was kind of cool. I had foolishly assumed they changed the name of Novgorod sometime in the 18th century or something, that its still around -and under the same name- compounds my ignorance utterly !

Thanks guys. I dont have time to go to a library and take a book out over this, though, bloody school sapping all of my energies as it is.
