    Default Changing a unit's weapon

So, I notice Byzantium's distinct deficiency in the department of spearmen. Specifically heavy spearmen in the style of the Western European's Armoured Sergeants unit. Now, I know from my studies of the Byzantine Empire that their armies most definetely had armoured spearmen units, the famous scutati, which generally made up the backbone of their infantry corps.

So I figure I'll just replace the model for Byzantine Spearmen with that of Byzantine Infantry, and add some armour levels on to them. This does not work, it just makes the Byzantine Spearmen look like Byzantine Infantry, swords and all. What I'd like is a unit that has the body model of Byzantine Infantry, but carries a spear. That's all. Can I do this through editing text files, or do I have to mess around with unit models and textures and such?

In answer to the question: yes, you have to mess around with unit models and textures and such.
