Are you a Racist?

So after scanning through the resent thread about the judge that did not want to marry a mixed race couple, I was taken aback by some people who actually defended the position. So I figured it would be worth while to see if anyone here actually self identifies as a racist.

The second thing I wanted to ask, was what qualifies someone as a racist. I have seen comments here a number of times which are frankly racist, but are immediately qualified with a "but I'm no racist". Is this dishonest, or am I just being oversensitive? Because it seems to me that some people assume that in order to be a bigot, you must be actively crowding Jews into a cattle car, or unloading Africans onto a port in the Caribbean. I would challenge that. I remember seeing a quote of Hitler, that said something to the effect of "one of the main cornerstones of our political support are people who would bare no malice toward the Jews, but would rather just not associate with them all the same."

But racism has historically been a massive issue. Larger than both fascism and communism my opinion (because the most destructive elements of both of these ideologies are Racist). Is it that far fetched to make sure that bigotry does not make a major comeback?

Being totally honest about it I have to vote yes. I have friends from other ethnic backgrounds and don't think any differently of them than I would of friends of the same ethnicity as me. However I cannot say the same of strangers. Although I guess I generally 'hate'/insult all ethnicities equally(including my own)and my racism is of the moment not a constant. By that I mean I readily insult and use slurs directed at people who have irritated or angered me. Given two people who were exactly the same, one of the same ethnicity as me and one of a different ethnicity, then asked to choose one to be friends with I would be more likely to pick the one who was the same as me. I am not a hate filled racist that thinks everyone else should burn or is angered by interracial couples, etc...I am more of a natural racist in that overall I prefer the company of people most like myself.

No, Races do not exist in relation to human beings and thus I cannot hate a non existent thing.. Now if a racist were someone who hated the idea of different races.. then I suppose I am a racist.. because I believe all are the same.

Scientific Racism is a product of brain dead materialism, just as both ethical and economic Socialism are alas.

There might be entire peoples who are despicable and backwards (and I don't care about what you say of the "individual"), but ultimately, I think humanity is an unified biological genus.

I did. If people were being truthful with themselves the numbers would probably be the other way round.

Think about it...If two people who were exactly the same, except one was your ethnicity/nationality and the other was not, asked you to be friends at exactly the same time and you could only pick one...being honest with yourself how would you decide it and who would you pick? If you think too hard about it you are always going to say the 'other' fella because it makes you feel good and you can pat yourself on the back for not being racist. That is the luxury of sitting here talking about it. If it was to happen in the 'real world' and your subconcious made the choice, before you even knew it was being made, I would bet more people go for the 'same' fella than not.

I would have to say I'm racist too.

I don't purposefully discriminate mentally or physically, and I try my best to judge people by their merits, but it's a fact of life that the way I interpret and respond to people and issues is partially based on race. I never intend to discriminate, but I'm sure I do on a subconscious level.
