XC Sub Mod Project: Prelude to the Second Punic War
I want to put Bactria playable from the start. aside from giving them territories, taking out the "spawned on event" lie on sm_factions and the "death until resurrected" in th descr-strat....i have to remove the event of their appearance somewhere, to avoid CTDs?
1) put them on playable
2) remove dead until resurrected
3) move baktra and kophen back to the baktrian faction (watch for the seleucid general, he needs to be commented out or moved to another settlement)
4)uncomment the baktrian familty tree
descr_sm_factions: remove the "spawned_on_event"
That should be enough.
On the other side, did you check if there's a baktrian campaign under provincial campaigns?
Yes, but it is not neccesarily to play as Bactria, is because i moved the starting date of the imperial campaign to the end of the first Punic War and by that age Bactria already "emerged"
Yes. NO problem
Its dated on 233, the date of Hannibalīs 16 years. Iīm putting a lot of historical characters including the whole Mauryan Dinasty on the Eastern Kingdoms. Iīm thinking on moving the Senate back to Rome and even putting another Roman faction, just to assure the explosion of Rome than in the XGM/XC sometimes do not happens
Southern Italy, Sicilia except Syracuse, Corsica and Sardinia are Romans by that date. In exchange, Carthago gets Saguntum.
Well, Suppa invited me to his project a months ago......then i get busy so i declined, but now iīm working againg
Whatever tip you have i would thank. Iīm having trouble specially in modifying trait triggers to give the "Indian" traits to de Eastern Kingdoms....
All the cultural traits are a huge improvement of XC, you really have done a great work. The feature that most surprised me of the later version were the Suplly line traits. You took the entire game to another level that was not considered at all in te basic game.
I'm afraid my specialty lies on the other side of the map...
Anyways:
- You should seriously consider waiting for XC4, it's gonna be a much more balanced and satisfying experience.
- Moving the senate back to rome and creating another faction is a huge load of work
- GCS were wiped out at the time so you may want to consider the scenario I'll write below
- This is more or less the time of Telamon and the gallic civil war is still going on, I'd consider putting rome at war with the celts and allied with the gauls.
- You may want to give Arsa to the carthies, Saguntum will play another role.
- If you want Rome to "explode" you should consider giving them well developed settlements in order to boost their economy
- Sardinia and Corsica should get rebel stacks.
Using GCS and IGCS:
As the chremoidean league was wiped out at the time, I'd consider a very alternative but quite interesting use of GCS and IGCS:
- IGCS could take Sparta and crete.
- GCS could be used for Massalia and its colonies, creating a greek faction in a very interesting spot. They will also represent Syracuse and be allied to both Rome and Carthage, creating a very interesting faction. Massalia, Emporion and Saguntum could be the territories, at war with Carthage.
- Carthies could get Arsa and all the north african coast except Tingi, owned by EK/rebels.
- You could push a few years back and have Hamilcar still alive with the three brothers coming to age. Alternatively you can start with Hannibal, Hasdrubal and Mago already grown up and have two good and one outstanding generals available from start.
My MSN is zarax999@hotmail.com, if you want I can give you some extra material over there.
Interesting stuff, Anakarsis.
I'll give you my two bits as well.
As Zarax recommended, waiting until Extended Cultures 4 full release is probably worth your while. Many things will change externally and internally.
Also, if you want a second Roman faction, it will be easier to work from the Regular campaign, unless you want a senate specifically.
Finally, if you haven't already added Bactria, taking code from the provincial campaign will help. You may want to look at the Caesar Civil War for expansion process.
However, as i plan to change at least some factions from place, i feared that the new wonders system should gimme a lot of extra work. Thatīs why iīm working on the alpha 4.0
Also, a basic question: i move the Senate back to Rome and "superfactioning" Rome. but Rome (internally the julii) still appears among the foreing countries policies, and as a hated enemy. I already modified the core attitudes and faction relationships in the descr_strat, but this do not changes. This only happens in the senate screen: in the strategic map, Rome and the Senate appears allied, and the superfaction order works: neither faction attacks one another
Thank you for your desire for create new provincial campaign. I would love to see it in XC.
I have already think about provincial campaigns with different playable periods (like in old MTW) before but we still lack of manpowers to do them so as now we busy with XC4 main engine, bug hunting still on our highest priority.
I didn't know that you have already seen these or not, these are my idea that I post in "XGM" and "XC Developer" forum for a while. And I hope you could revise, change or add ideas about them and even create them to reality if you want to.

While Tocharian Invasion in the east left scars to the eastern world by the dead of 2 Parthian shahs who fight against them and destruction of Greco-Bactrian Kingdom which power replaced by Tocharian clans like Kushan before driven out of Central Asia by Mithridates II of Parthia, situation in the west became greater trobles for Romans. While Romans still not yet to fully pacified Ibreia, new threats have arised from two completely different fronts, one was Romans's old allies and others are horde of peoples that romans not yet facing before...
On the southern border, Internal political struggle within Numidia bring roman to involve in war with Jugurtha, the adopted son of former king of Numidia who shine in talent as well as unfathomable ambition. He once fought for Roman in Celtiberian War before and he known roman very well...maybe too well. He knows all weakness of Romans system both in politic and Polybian army system. So all things that romans send to stop him in North Africa are in grave danger....
...On the northen border, romans facing with a huge wave of migration of people of the northern land beyond Northern Sea. Romans never met them before but decided to called them with the name those celts called their foreign neighbours "Germans". Although they were the most primative yet organized enemies that roman ever facing, they never expect these new peoples cause the protractd and bloody war they ever facing since Hannibal, and will become their, more than just matched, nemesis for next several centuries to comes...

So player must used low level units to created kingdom and slowly created more powerful units from civilized city you captured to replaced what you have lost and continue your momentum after you facing more powerful Romans' reformed legions.

The ambitious Mithridates VI of Pontus watch situation in Rome closely and think this is the right time for declared himself as protector of hellenic world and liberated as well as united peoples of Eastern Mediterranean in war against Rome. Mithridates is the great strategist so his plan is far from impossible. And due to his strategic mind, he unlike what romans ever facing before...
...While roman so busy with their own civil war and Mithridates, New force to reckon with arised in Carpartia and may change the tide of history to come.
Player could have many choice in the era of ambition here. As roman, you would play as Sulla and his loyal army in fight against outside enemies leaded by Mithridates as well as fight in Civil war for his own power over Rome. Or you would play as Pontus and use all strategic mind driven out Roman from hellenic world with strategy and all underhand in his stock. Other main player in this campaign is Dacia-Thrace under new rising king Burebista who will exploited the time when roman busy with Mithridates and their own civil war to emerged as great power of Europe which even roman also reckon with. All other player also have good time here as Roman's hard times is the time of exploitation.

Their destiny lay in India which will change the fate of their kingdom forever.
I hope my outline ideas would be useful for you to create Provincial campaigns. If you need any help, ask me and I will provide you with my best effort.
Handle them well, Anakarsis. They are all in your hand now.

That happens because romans_julii aren't one of the first 3 factions in descr_sm_factions.txt.
If you want a roman senate I also suggest this faction order:
Most interesting Suppa, specially the Kushan campaing, iīm a fan of the Kushan empire.
Iīm working on it on the main campaign, as i donīt exactly know how to make a provincial campaign.
My estimative starting date is 233, Hamilcar is still alive, with 42 years (he dies in 228), Hannibal just reached 16, Mago is still young, (10 years), Hasdrubal is older than Hannibal, dontīt know exactly how much.
I think starting date at 240 BC maybe better as it start in middle conflict of Truceless war for Carthage and you will also met Ashoka of Maurya during that time as he seem to die in 232 BC at age 72 and with traits and some hidden traits placed in descr_strat.txt, I could made 8 years old Hannibal to grow up with very promising traits preset specially for him when coming of ages...
...But it all in your hand now and I will accept your decision.

I could put trait....
According to Livy, Hannibal much later said that when he came upon his father and begged to go with him, Hamilcar agreed and demanded him to swear that as long as he lived he would never be a friend of Rome. There is even an account of him at a very young age begging his father to take him to an overseas war. In the story, Hannibal's father took him up and brought him to a sacrificial chamber. Hamilcar held Hannibal over the fire roaring in the chamber and made him swear that he would never be a friend of Rome. Other sources report that Hannibal told his father, "I swear so soon as age will permit...I will use fire and steel to arrest the destiny of Rome."
Put his father the trait "He had his sons swore to hate Rome forever!" from in Descr_strats.txt that have 4 level grow by accumulated every turns (+1 point each turn).
240 BC Start with LV1 (threshold=1)--from start use for detect trait for trigger when coming of ages(condition "FatherTrait") for Hannibal Barca. with many bonus trait for him since start.
~232 BC reach LV2 (threshold=18)--for Hasdrubal's trait set(coming of ages in 231 BC)
~230 BC reach LV3 (threshold =22)--for Mago's trait set(coming of ages in 229 BC)
~228 BC reach LV4 (threshold =26)--nolonger effect to son traits or lesser than LV3
Yes, create new trait in EDCT to have it....I'm traitsmaster here, so it will be there if you ask for.
