    Default Balancing thoughts

    Hello all!
I've been playing a new DTW game sinced 1.1 came out, not much time for it, more on weekends, some during the week. This game has been interesting, at least until recently, managed to conquer all of southern Italy and Sicily, the later being completely in Carthaginian hands by the time I got there. My single "legion" was able to kick Carthaginian butt in the area, they attacked me with two large stacks outside their cities, then left the cities poorly defended so I managed to defeat them and conquer. Meanwhile in northern Italy, Epirus began conquering the Gallic regions, yea, Epirus managed to conquer Illyria after we made a cease fire agreement, then moved on to north Italy. They quickly declared war on me and sieged Tarquinii, which I lost because I had to reinforce the Legion that was still in Sicily before I sent it north, recaptured Tarquinii and the region to the north (not Genoa, which is still in Gallic hands, im allied with them btw, but they dont help much). After those conquests, had to defeat another couple of large Epirot armies, most with Heroic victories, but the Legion is in need of reeinforcements, and then the worst happened, the Celts took the oportunity and declared war. They're much more powerfull than the Gauls or Epirots, my spies have spotted a large number of average to large armies from north Italy to France. I managed to defeat their first siege with my Legion, but dont know how long I can manage that. Tarquinii is once again under siege by the Epirots, so reinforcements from Rome must deal with that first.

Its a very interesting game, but not fair seeing the AI with large number of armies and you barely manage to have one large stack without going bankrupt. Are they getting economic bonuses? Maybe they should be toned down a little.

Im going to reduce the penalties of the governor buildings, since many of my cities are now with Low tax rates and large garrisons to keep people in order, dont think thats very realistic, you should only need large garrisons in regions recently conquered from a hostile people, after they're pacified a garrison of 3 to 5 units should be enough, depending on the size.

One other thing I dont like much, the cities grow too fast, at least in the smaller levels, and its a bit hard to make the governor's upgrade when your economy is ruined by the need to have a large number of units garrisoning your cities. I think the manpower growth speed is fine, what could be tweaked is the number of manpower for the cities growth, I suppose it can be increased? Then the manpower bonus of the Grain Imports could be increased to compensate, so if you dont want some cities to grow, you dont build Grain Imports and they will eventually stagnate.

Interesting. The only problem I see is the Celts, the Celts usually conquers all of germany france and britain. They are huge and got no one opposing them with the equal strength of power. In the middle-east the Seleucid Empire is the dominant kingdom, but it got lots of enemies. So another 10 faction slots would be needed for balancing out properly ... Or slaves could get the most of the settlements instead of the Celts and Gauls.
The big problem is when RedFox removed the Germania faction, the Celts had no strong opponents ... I would suggest to remove Bactria or Independent Greeks (and divide their Mediterrenian cities to the Acheans and LGCS (Leauge of the greek city states)

I also think that cities grow to fast. If you want to build an army it got to have consequences. Not just economical ones but also Manpower ones. Otherwise you could just rebuild and rebuild, IRL that wasn't so possible.

Can someone tell me where one can change the number of population for a city to grow? I cant find it.

I also agree there are too many "Greek" factions in the Imperial campaign and one of them should be used for a German faction.

There will be no german faction. I'll just hammer Celtic economy a bit.

Can i just say that the hardest faction to beat in diadochi has got to be all of them because once you start a war with someone it takes for ever to destroy them and make reasons with them.

for a good tactician it shouldnt take longer than 20 turns, which isnt that long.
