Can't close the Gate

There is a big attack 2 stack attack the wooden walls. I sortie out some knights disrupt the ram/tower meanwhile the fire archers score big and burn up the tower and the ram as the knights are killed.
The first stack surges into the open gate and there is a big battle for half the alloted time.
They are tossed back by my valiant defenders as the second stack of enemy come waltzing around the town. It would appear I have plenty of time to close the gate. But for some reason the gate does not close.
I pull my troops in a wide arch around the gate and it still does not close.

Is this a bug or what????

Make sure there is no your units or soldiers near the gate. Otherwise it won't close.

This tends to be one of your men that has broken of from his unit, a straggler and he is to close to the gate. This is a soldier I find that has got stuck between a RAM or something like that and cannot move. Carefully look in the gate area, establish what unit he belongs to move them away. If he does not move he is stuck and your gonna have to wait for him to die.

On reflection advance his unit out of the gate, he may be able to move backwards, then run them all back in, once he has released himself, he should be ok

Those silly stuck soldiers... And they're even worse in ETW!
