In RTR it's traversable, which is good, but why can't I block it with ships? Besides that, how come if I place an army on it they don't even fight as they would a river, but on a coastal map? It's very annoying and unrealistic.

RTW was not designed for landbridges. That`s just an improvisation and the only way you can make it happen.

Besides, the Bosporus is no river. Far too wide and cannot be crossed on foot. It would be an amphibious assault, if anything. The current set up is probably the most accurate, in that regard.
