Default i'm sure this has been asked many times, but

how the hell do you get rid of the bloody resource gathering thing?
i'm sick of loosing battles that i could other wise have won just because the army has a massive moral minus after besieging a settlement for only a few turns.
even if you're laying siege to a city only just across the boarder from your land and there is a direct rout between you and a friendly settlement, yet resources seem to be difficult to get hold of?
this has lead me to just not use generals in battle, take them out of the army before i attack, and the put them in after, which defeats the whole point of them.
i wouldn't be quite as bad if it actually effected the AI as well, but they can have been standing around in foreign land for decades and not have this problem?

so to the point, how can i get rid of it, and will it effect save games
(and yes i know i can just use ships, but they don't seem to actually work most of the time, and when you're fighting in central europe, open sea is pretty thin on the ground)

Remove the supply trait trigger from export_descr_character_traits.txt. You can find them (traits) easily, just press Ctrl + F and type in "supply" or something, then search. You should know what to remove when you check the file. PM me if you don't get it.

thanks, i've deleted most of this stuff i needed to i think

what of units in saved games that still have something like "troops dissrespondent"
now that that's been deleted, will it break that save or will it just be removed from the list

If those changes are save-game compatible (I'm not sure), that mention disappears. If they're not, you continue playing without changes.

If you're playing with SS6.1, then just reinstall the 6.1 patch and choose to remove the supply system when it asks if you want to install any submods.

If removing the supplies is the only thing you do differently when you reinstall 6.1, then it should be savegame compatible (should be the operative word). Your current generals will still have the supply traits but they shouldn't affect anything anymore. Any new generals wont get the supply traits.

Be aware that some sub-mods add the supply traits back in(i dled y and y pack and crimson tide and I somehow got the supply traits after I removed them, don't know which mod i got it from).

I've finished with "Kind Regards" in my post for years so dont feel you have to reward me for it(like someone kindly did).

There's a lesson to read about what a mod contains before you install it.

well i did read what was in it, and i've been playing SS for ages, i just after a long time, got tired of this thing and editing a few files is easier than a whole reinstall

This is the real problem with the supply system, IMO. It turns generals from an asset into a liability. I've also at times replaced a tired general with a fresh one in order to continue with a campaign, but that basically defeats the while point of the supply system.

The supply system is a cute but ultimately ugly hack. But I guess it's the only way to do it with this engine. (I am pretty impressed with the creativity that led to this, in any case.)

Well you are playing with a BGR version that is as old as M2TW. There have been 4 versions since and generals are not a liability in them but essential, particularly in BGRIV. I don't actually believe generals with supplies are a liability in the original either. The original version has enjoyed a user base of 10s of thousands in its heyday and has been in about 100,000 downloads and is still in the 2 most popular medieval mods.
I don't believe replacing one general with another who brings up more supplies destroys the supply system any more than I believe that a game with only 1 settlement per region or turn based movement destroys M2TW. Though the resupply feature too has been further refined in later versions.

Can someone explain how to get rid of the supply traits after having installed Real Combat / Real Recruitment Compilation?

I've tried deleting the traits but I don't really know what to look for and can't delete without the game crashing on loading.

    Thanks

It should be done by simply deleting the supply trait triggers in export_descr_character_traits.txt.
RR\RC itself doesn't affect those supply traits AFAIK, it's BGR which is one of the options in the installer. So, if you have SS installer (parts 1 & 2) deposit, just delete your SS (pick up your saves and replays before this), perhaps run a registry cleaner, reinstall SS and the patch 6.1 and 6.2 if you wish, then download RR\RC and don't choose BGR when the installer opens. I have not actual experience as I don't have RR\RC, but if I'm wrong please correct me.

That's virtually correct, except there's nothing connected to your registry.
    To make matters clearer:

    In the RRRC6.2etc. compilation:
    BGR2 is in by default.
    BGRIV is optional
Both contain supplies in different ways as shown here under the heading of each version

    In SS6.1:
BGR2 is optional (simply don't tick it in the installer, if you did tick it and don't want it, then reapply only the SS6.1 installer and don't tick it).
BGRIII is optional (simply don't tick it in the installer, if you did tick it and don't want it, then reapply only the SS6.1 installer and don't tick it).
BGRIV is not included and has to be actively downloaded separately, from the BGR site, if it is to be used.

If you have started a campaign either with or without any version of BGR then you had best start a new campaign.

If you have already started a campaign with BGR2 (and you have a lot of modding knowledge) and then decide to change your mind, then set all the BGR triggers to Chance 0, which will prevent only new generals from getting supplies, field morale system, battle monument awards and some tweaks.

Should make this a sticky somewhere. Though the important bits are probably in the ss6.1 FAQ.
