Default Why is Auto-Resolve so stupid?

Seriously, auto-resolve is ridiculous. I frequently use it to quickly pass sieges or battles where my enemy is in extremely small numbers and the outcome is obvious. But, it is ridiculous when my 1200 man army kills less than 100 men, loses over 500 men to an enemy of 250 troops. Why is this? Every single battle I auto-resolve ends up in ridiculous catastrophe for me, but if I actually play it out myself, it's a decisive victory.

Another good example is when my two full English armies fight one full, out-classed Irish army in open field, each of my armies kill slightly more than 200 while the Irish army killed 1000 troops total.

I think that some things in SS are fairly unbalanced when it comes to A-R.. Not that it wasn't already unbalanced in Vanilla...

When complete bull like that happens just use the auto win cheat.

If you dont know it is

    auto_win attacker
    OR
    auto_win defender

to bring up the console commands press the ` key. On my normal keyboard its right above tab.

    Other usefull cheats are

    toggle_fow
and add_money 40000 (as high as it goes)
The AI is like a retarded overwieght child. He realy want all those fries, he just does not know how to get them. http://img1.coolspacetricks.com/imag...unny/81776.gif

It may also be "ö" on Scandinavian keyboards - I had a huge problem with this as I have one, but nearly any guide doesn't have a mention about that.
I usually avoid using autoresolve, it sucks really... bodyguards only stand on the battlefield (in ~70% of the battles they have 0 kills) and nearly always that trait "Severely Wounded" appears on your general.

I've had just the opposite experience with battle AutoResolve under SS. I don't use AutoResolve for big battles -- only for the little annoying ones. Under vanilla M2TW I consistently had bad results with AutoResolve; but under SS I think the AutoResolve has actually given me better outcomes than I could have attained myself. That's been a pleasant surprise for me.

+1 with GreenWarrior: since i have installed ss6.2 RC4 (not with RR), it is even better. I think autoresolve plays a quick AI vs AI battle without graphic interface so result isn't so bad since Real Combat is here to improve AI. My 2 cents, i have no certitude on anything.

To each his own, but I love the little skirmishes because there's opportunity there for Heroic Victories and Man-of-Hours. I like to send out cavalry units with a spy attached to them for recon; best part is having Milan or Spain come after me with a little troupe of badass crossbows...then I hit them from all sides.

I only use Auto Resolve on small rebel armies (unless I'm training a new General) and in sieges I couldn't be bothered fighting. With the sieges I will win 90% of the time, but what I don't get is the casualty rate. Consider this:

1 full stack army consisting of mixed infantry, archers and cavalry.
    vs.
1 unit each of Crossbows, Armoured Sergeants and Peasants.

Manually played I would lose maybe 50-150 men (I once had a unit of Peasants rout a unit of Dismounted Feudal Knights on the outer walls of a Citadel... ), but Auto Resolved the same battle would lose me about 10 men... which is less than what the archers and towers kill while I'm moving my siege equipment up in the manual battle.
I'm currently playing as England, and after hammering the Scots the Pope went medieval on my ass and booted me out of the God club. Next thing I know, I have dirty foreigners landing on my shores from wierd and far-flung countries. - Sargon_of_Akkad

I always autoresolve sieges, never liked them. Just as a good rule of them if you're gona autoresolve, make sure its a good general, he has surgeon traits (from traits or ancillary), and you come in unnecessary force.

One would think that the AI would be tweaked in such a way to understand the nuances involved with certain units being superior in certain situations (as it is in the woods, or snow, or on a hill,, etc) but there seems to be a failure in calculations during seiges. When I autoresolve attacking Dublin, it aways results in a crushing defeat. When I play it manually, my archers burn-up half the garrison, and I stroll through the gates hardly opposed.

I never auto resolve siege battles or large battles. They are just too much fun.
As a rule of thumb, don't use the auto_win cheat when your army has a general, cause I've noticed that when I do that, they get the 'Seriously Injured' trait every time.

AutoResolve is absolutely horrible in this game. Sorry.

I recently fought a battle between my best army of over 2,000 men against an armor of 300 roughly and it was CRUSHING DEFEAT! HOOOOOOOORAH!

I lost 1,800 men and he lost 55. Seriously... It's just not possible.

I think it depends on your game difficulty settings but as a rule of thumb if it looks balanced (or slightly in your favor) you will loose (in my experience). Now I know PB has said that he has worked on this for the latest RR/RC mod so it may be worth giving that a try.
