Is it possible to take a strat map model and convert it in to a battle model? I know the opposite is possible.
Is it possible to take a strat map model and convert it in to a battle model? I know the opposite is possible.
Reverse engineer this tutorial, instead of adding strat skeletons add the battle models skeleton and use Alletun´s tutorial to add weight to bones.

Easiest way is to import the .cas file using GOAT and the Convert RTW battle cas, that way everything is done for you.![]()
Okay, so you fire up GOAT so it looks like this:

and then you click "Convert RTW battle cas"? And then that's it? Just convert it to .mesh and fire it up in game?
EDIT: Did that. Doesn't work. I do not know what it is I am doing incorrectly. The model is in milkshape and seemingly works fine, but it always causes an unspecified error in-game and quits. But I've double-checked my model_db and everything seems to be in order. To double-check, I even substituted a northern general model/texture combo and that worked just fine. So I suspect it's something to do with the mesh instead of my model_db file.
But just in case, here is my model_db entry:
If anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong, I will be most appreciative.Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

No, you still have to assign the groups to the figure or attachments materials and the model will also need a primaryactive at least, but all the verts will already be assigned to the skeleton.
I've had no trouble with this method apart from that the strat texture sizes are too small and cause problems in game. If you can't get the game to launch, (it would be helpful to know what stage exactly the game crash's) I can only guess that your version of GOAT might not be the 1.1 version? I think there may also be a list in that thread regarding flawed models. But in my experience so far a bad model doesn't cause the game to crash...
If your using 1.1 and another mesh and texture combo works with the same .db entry, I can only suggest that you try coding the model in as a unit rather than a character, that or upload your ms3d format model...

Well, see, now I feel like a tool. When you said "...that way everything is done for you" I took it a tad bit literally lol.
Oh, it has an unspecified error when I try to start a battle with the unit. Sorry for not being more specific. By "primaryactive" do you mean a weapon?
EDIT :: Well, I took another look at my process, and merged the model with another general model (to get the sword), and deleted the first sword so only the new sword remained. Then I assigned the body to Figure and the sword to Attachments, and double-checked to make sure the texture file was NOT labeled as a .tga.dds and tried again. Sure enough, it works! Thank you for your VERY simple help, Eothese! +rep (Thank you as well, Icedie El Guarani, though I think I would have been hard pressed to wrap my head around those tutorials)
