    Default Do you build inns?

So my question is, do you build inns? Why or why not?

I don't build inns because I am scared that my generals get traits like drinking, gambling, and perversion. These traits usually lower general attributes by 2 or 3.

    What's your opinion on inns?

Usually only build them in the cities where I want to recruit spies and assassins. Will build them in remote regions if public order is a real problem.

I only build them in regions where I do not plan to keep a governor or where I want a governor to increase his dread trait without actually fighting (I typically move him elsewhere later).

I build brothels in every city I can, I only upgrade a few for the assassins.

I tend to either go without or only have one city to recruit Spies in the early part of the game because it's an expense I can do without and the Public Order boosts are negligible compared to other, much needed, structures like barracks, Town Halls and Churches (the latter two help a LOT in reducing the impact of pl;ague once it hits so I get them upgraded as far as I can before the late 13th century). By about Turn 20 I will usually have captured at least one or two cities with Brothels/Inns etc and upgrade them whenever I feel the need. I find that the later in the game it gets the more important Spies and Brothels become both for Public Order, when you need all the happiness you can get, and tactical purposes, especially when playing a Christian faction because the Pope doesn't mind when you attack, for example, Paris after it has gone Rebel but he gets all huffy and pulls out the Excommunication stick otherwise.
I'm currently playing as England, and after hammering the Scots the Pope went medieval on my ass and booted me out of the God club. Next thing I know, I have dirty foreigners landing on my shores from wierd and far-flung countries. - Sargon_of_Akkad

I always do, because CO&E makes the bad traits more realistically manageable. (CO&E is in PB's new RR/RC Compilation... a few too many acronyms there )

I don't develop this kind of buildings cause they just cost too much compared to what they offer. Better develop town hall building - health bonus for more citizens to tax and similiar public order bonuses but due to law, which also decrease corruption.

I agree, Town Halls are better. However, when you have Public Order problems that aren't fixed by them, Inns are still quite good. I've looked at a lot of the traits, and often they come from having 100% movement points at the end of the turn. So, I just move governors in and out of potential problem cities, and they tend not to get the negative traits. Problem solved (sort of).

I never waste my time for building inns because
    1) they cause bad traits
    2) I usually don't need spies and especially assassins
    3) there are lots of better stuff to build

Well to be honest here i try to build everything in due time. i mean how i could not build inns then? they give great happiness to the setlements. So i can raise even more the taxes, and get more monney. btw assassins and spies are great to disturb enemey cities to made then revolt. Its pretty usefull when you dont want to lose face to other nations, and to conquer key territories.

Brothels a necessity. Inns I usually do build in every city. Anything after that I build when I either have nothing else to build until the next settlement upgrade, population growth is low or negative, or the city has low public order.
