    Icon5 Remove reinforcement armys

Would it be possible to limit 20 units per battle for player and ai or simply remove reinforcements? When to many reinforcements come game starts to run very slow and i hate that. I know I can lower the amount of soldiers in each unit but that makes battles very boring. I would like to play each battle with maximum number of troops my computer can handle.

I guess you want this in your medieval2.preference.cfg (edit with notepad).

    unlimited_men_on_battlefield = 0

That's the default, which prevents too many armies on the field at once. You'll get the 'reinforcements delayed' message and they won't arrive.

I set unlimited_men_on_battlefield to 0 now and it works. The game seems to limit to 4000 soldiers per battle but I would like to limit to about 2500 soldiers. Would it be possible to somehow fool the game so it would think my computer is slower than it really is? The limit would be at less soldiers then right? Thanks for your help.

I don't think so, I think to further reduce the amount of men on the field you'd have to lower the unit size.

What spec PC do you have?

I removed 1gb ram and downclocked cpu to 1GHz and the limit was still at 4000 men so it seems computer doesnt make any difference. Would it be possible to change that 4000 limit somewhere in the files or is that hardcoded? I have athlon x2 3.3GHz, 3gb ram ddr2 and radeon 4850. Playing with over 2500 soldiers gets a little choppy and i hate that.

I'd imagine it's hardcoded. Personally I have a similar system and I lower the graphics settings.

4000 soldiers divided by two players divided by 20 units equals 100 soldiers per unit which is the normal size setting.

This would rather be "large" with 60 knights, 90 archers and 112 spearmen per unit. "normal" would be 40 knights, 60 archers and 75 spearmen.

Another thing that seems to seriously reduce preformance are different types (models?) of units. For example, I have no problems playing battles in Vanilla on large settings, but Kingdoms:Americas for me becomes unplayable on the battle map with these settings as soon as natives start running in larger numbers.

I had the same problem in EB (RTW-engine): The game run without problems on "huge", but the PC went on its knees anytime larger numbers of Celtic Spearmen were on the map.

Must have to do with the mesh of the units. Some mods only create lod0 (lodzero) meshes for all distances. And as usual the grass is biting the performance, together with the other fancy stuff (glints, reflections).

As for graphics, I would reduce the grass and anisotropic filtering.

With 2500 soldiers, everything maxed out and even if fps drops to 20 the game runs very smoothly but if there are 4000 soldiers, graphic everything on low or off, fraps measures around 50 fps and the game runs kinda laggy.

Sounds a bit fussy to me. I'd lower your standards if you think 50fps is laggy.

Stuttering would probably be a better word to describe it. I think medieval 2 has badly optimized game engine.

Oh I see what you mean. Does it stutter the same whether the detail settings are high or low?

    Maybe this helps: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...ht=fps+booster

But maybe not. Stuttering can be caused by cpu+hdd being accessed, try disabling any background software, disable unneeded windows services too if you want to be really thorough, disconnect the pc from the net, etc.

Update your mainboard, sound and graphics drivers, then reinstall directx. Always good.

You could use this if the problem only comes when you are sieging:
