I'm not happy about the changes done to the Byzantine units in 6.2. Why was it changed? I thought CBUR was being used.

Umm, 6.1 used vanilla units, 6.2 uses CBUR, or a variation of it at the least.
What's CBUR?![]()

Yeah I know but the units are reskinned.
OOoh right, cheers.
I can't find any newer 6.2 update. I'm pretty sure I have the latest 6.2. I downloaded it a few days ago.
Gracul's 6.2 RC4 doesn't include roster mods, such as CBUR (though it's planned to be included later)
Point Blanks' latest RR/RC compilation includes 6.2, and several roster mods, CBUR amongst others.
Yes if you want to use CBUR and 6.2 you have to install Point Blank's RR/Rc that PerXX linked to and you should do it on a clean install of 6.1 There are enough differences between files to cause problems otherwise.
But use the April compilation not the October one-a lot of people are having problems with that one (downloading, installing, and CTDs with it). The April one plays fine, just follow all instructions in first post of that thread.

CBUR is a beautiful mod, very well researched and done. Admirable, truly a work of love. However I must add that perhaps a little too much love went into it... Byzantine units are overpowered IMHO. At every stage they are better than what Western-style factions can field (probably also stronger than anything the muslims can muster). I'm playing a Venetian early campaign, RR/RC, H/H around 1300 and I'm a bit weary of fighting scoutatois and sparthanois and mortuatois and athanatois and whatever-tois which are so über, while I have to struggle with armies where my main battle units are spearmen and spear militias with a few mercs thrown in and even having to round them out with peasants! It seems that in every battle the Byzzies will come up with some new super-unit! I won't deny that it has been very challenging, but that's not the point.
loose cannon: those have been largely addressed.
Yeah I play with ERE a lot, and I find that while the Cbur roster is very pretty, and historically on the money, particularly in the late era I take heavy casualties... there are none of the chivalric/gothic full plate fighting machines, no pikes, no polearms, no advanced gunpowder. Early era they can be a powerhouse, however.
That's exactly why they died out. Just like the Ottomans who supplanted them, with the exception of Alexios Komnenos, they believed that "if it worked in the past, it should work now." History has shown repeatedly that nations that become conservative (I'm not talking about the political sense, see the above quote), are the ones who lose in the end.
I've never actually played with them that late..what are the armies usually made up of?
Go for the new 6.2 and you will have CBUR Byzantine roster of units.
